Re: Surly Brewery Site

I kind of feel like wherever this ends up being will be a letdown of sorts. The logistics of actually brewing a lot of beer just work against having it in a cool area. I agree. The size and type of building they need isn't going to be available--and certainly not available at a justifiable cost--in...

Re: Nicollet Residences

I figure it'll be 307 feet. The original design was 365 feet. The apartment floors are 9' 8" in height. So that should lower it to around 307.
Yeesh. I'm still looking forward to it but 307 isn't as exciting.

Re: Nicollet Residences

I'll take slicing off 6 floors over not building at all. 27 stories will still make a nice impact on the skyline.
Agreed. Plus, in the end it comes down to height. Yes, number of floors is a function of that, but this could still be 400 feet despite being 27 stories.

Skyline/Mill District View from 35W Bridge

In my opinion the view of the skyline, the mill district, and the stonearch bridge from the 35W bridge is the best view in the city. Especially in the early evening. Does anyone know of or have any great pictures from this vantage point? I've found a few but none do the view justice.

Re: Izzy's Ice Cream Factory

They will be selling ice cream by the scoop and there are plans for outdoor seating as well.
That's what I remember hearing/reading.

Izzy's Ice Cream Factory

I drove by Gold Medal park yesterday and it occurred to me I hadn't heard/seen anything about this potential project. Here's a refresher link and pic for those who don't remember it: http://i561.photobucket.com/albums/ss57/goldenkid21/ericroper_1331568149_izzys1.jpg http://finance-commerce.com/2011/...

Re: Velo apartments

Wedgeguy has it right. The limit isn't structural, it's fire related. Stick buildings are much more likely to have catastrophic fires than concrete or steel ones, and are thus limited in heights so that ladder trucks can reach the top floors.
Thanks, guys. Good to know.

Nice! I was there at the end of last week and didn't see anything. Happy there is progress.

Re: Velo apartments

This is a sharp looking design. Does anyone know if this is likely to be stick construction? The first two floors will have to be brick/concrete, but the top 4 could be stick, correct? The way it's usually done is the first floor is concrete, the rest is wood framed. From the render it looks like t...

Re: 129 Plymouth Ave N

I got physically upset seeing that. You are right, it isn't the best location but that building belongs in Mankato, or Burnsville, or Chaska, or...you get the point. Ugh.

Re: Minneapolis Armory

But one of the few things our city sorely lacks is a flagship tennis training-and-tournament facility that could host national amateur and professional tennis tournaments. The Armory, if retrofitted with a sliding roof, state-of-the-art broadcast facilities, stadium seating, locker/training rooms e...

Re: IPR building in the NorthLoop

I hope that they can get this building renovated. It is beautiful, but in its present state it is an eyesore at the gateway into the city and the Warehouse district. I disagree on it being an eyesore, per se, but it has a vast amount of unused potential. I'm very curious to hear who will move into ...
