Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)
Isn't the block east of the library part of the eventual Gateway Park concept?

Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)
That second pic, from up in the Library, shows that the height compared to the Fed building will be just fine. Hopefully a building between 10-20 stories will go on the vacant spot by Dolphin Staffing. If that park gets approved, you would think that would become a prime parcel. I agree. Personally...

Re: Nic on Fifth - (455 Nicollet Mall)
If you look at this block from the perspective of the park that may or may not eventually lie in the block just to the north, it's hard for me to really complain about height. The configuration will provide a two-building step up, which will be a positive in several ways: [tab=30] • More sunlight fo...

And now for something completely different, I took a few pictures while working at the library earlier this week.

I saw some FSN signs in the windows there the other day. Interesting development.

Re: Intercity rail to Chicago
I might be testing the limits of a move to "Anything Goes," but just as an another example: Last year on a whim I decided to go up to Thunder Bay for a weekend and see what it's all about. To be sure, it's a dump, but it was kind of disheartening to see that the closest Canadian city to Mi...

Re: Intercity rail to Chicago
Maybe North Dakota could kick in some of its oil money to help speed things up (pun somewhat intended). I'd also love to see Minnesota do more to embrace our Canadian neighbors. There is a perception that Minnesota is "almost Canada," but outside of the State Fair adding poutine to the men...

Re: StoneBridge (2nd Street South & 11th Avenue South)
The first questions: 12 and the downtown side of the River. The second question: it overLOOKS the PARK (vista, park = Park Vista).....unless you were being sarcastic. I just meant why did this have a seemingly official name and suddenly change. I had just figured Park Vista was it, so now I have to...

Re: Vikings Stadium
I think expectations need to be tempered for the stadium. There's little evidence to expect a stadium that is nestled in quietly among a bunch of bustling townhomes. Even Target Field, despite the rose-colored glasses many of us look at the building through (including me), isn't really "active&...

Re: Vikings Stadium
The shops wouldn't need to make any "sense". They would be open to the public everyday, not just game days. Ideally, the city wouldn't be built around the stadium as much as the stadium would be built into the city. I don't understand what your concept of retail is for this stadium. Thing...

Re: Vikings Stadium
Well you can likely count on the stadium having a team store on the ground level, and there is apparently a team museum concept that is supposed to be involved in some way. I think the obvious answer is that you have to find retail that makes sense built into the side of the stadium, you can't just ...

Re: The Bridges - (950 University Avenue SE)
This is a pretty unique location with tons of visibility from the bridges, and the residents will forever have unobstructed skyline views.
So basically what I'm saying is that this site really shouldn't be wasted on something so lame. I don't even need height, but architecturally.

Re: Downtown Retail News
While increased downtown population helps, you also have to keep in mind that the population is going largely to the North Loop, Mill City and Loring Park areas, so the new demand they bring is likely not for clothes stores on Nicollet Mall.

Re: Downtown Retail News
Old Navy caters largely to high school students, though, few of whom have any reason to shop downtown.
