Re: 4Marq - (400 Marquette Avenue)

One issue that 4Marq creates is its going to block a lot of views for Nic on Fifth residents facing the northeast. Its also going to be taller. I wonder what Opus thinks? In a way I think it sort of downgrades their project. It's not blocking much. If you want to check it out... download the model ...

Re: Mortenson Apartment Tower - (400 Marquette Avenue)

Its podium is a little taller than typical podiums... at least that of 1368 and Nic on 5. This podium is 7 floors... over 70 feet. The podium of the other two is 5 floors... and around 50 feet. I think that's why this looks a little stocky. The concept looks fine... but the proportions look to be of...

Re: Convention Center Hotel - (330 South 12th Street)

I don't think a sleek 600' tower in this location would stick out like a soar thumb. Somebody posted pics of one here a few posts back and it looked awesome in our skyline. Look what the Carlisle did to add to our skyline and draw it northeast. It makes the view from the new 35w bridge awesome. If ...

Re: Convention Center Hotel - (330 South 12th Street)

Thank you seanrichardryan for the map. What a great spot for a tower - off the beaten path. The Mpls skyline would have such a different look (certainly enjoy it now) if the IDS, Wells Fargo & 225 S 6th towers were spead out a bit more. IMO, the skyline of the city would look much larger. Like ...

Re: Convention Center Hotel - (330 South 12th Street)

I'm all about height. But... a tower there, possibly 1000 feet or more, would look so out of place.

I play on sketchup too much. I made a model of Nic on 5th and made it public for download. So... if you want to see how this project visually impacts the area... feel free to click the link and download the KMZ file (then, of course, double click on it to open in google earth). http://sketchup.googl...

Re: 700 Washington & Third Apartments/Hotel

Nic on 5th is 253 units and 288 feet. So... if we are we expecting 150 apartments and 110 hotel rooms in one tower (260 total units)... This could be fairly tall... especially for that area.

Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)

I hate to be nit picking, but It's looks virtually as tall as The Target Building which is 492 feet! And its really only 46 feet taller than 110 Grant which is 330 feet. However, the mock up does give a sense the building's impact on extending the skyline to the south. Thanks for the pics! The mock...

Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)

I know we are beyond this phase, but I built a 376' mock up of whatever this building will be called and placed it in google earth. Here are some pics. Looking north on 35W. Tower is on the left. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/--C-Sd6gQ6_M/UUiczcMN1PI/AAAAAAAAAK4/iGp2W8PO104/s750/1.jpg Looking ea...

Re: 400 Marquette Avenue

You can also hide existing 3d buildings if you want (i.e. that parking ramp). I'm at work right now so I don't remember exactly how, but I think you right-click and there's like a check box to hide or something. right click... the only option is "hide building"... that's new to me too. Th...

image exports? no I did not. I think i looked for that one day. That sure would have been less junky than me pulling out my camera... *edit... wow... that was tremendously easy to do (exporting images from google earth). Next time... *eidt again... I went back and changed them. Thanks for the info.

Re: Vikings Stadium

Say no to over-the-top old school intricacy. Say yes to big bold interesting shapes, post-modernism, and relative simplicity. Post-modern only goes bad when boring materials are used... or when design details get too intricate and over the top (except for the wells fargo tower... which is more art d...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks

Lowering the rate and broadening the base. That's been going well since the 80s hasn't it? (It has not). People pay less in taxes today than ever. The rich are richer. The poor are poorer. There are more "takers" than there were 30 years ago. We are infinitely more in debt than ever. If yo...

Re: Vikings Stadium

^^^^ I'm not saying anything justifies anything. I am saying that, if done correctly, stadiums, arenas, ballparks etc. can have a huge positive impact on a local economy. The stadium may not generate enough money to pay for itself. But... new tax revenue with new development around the stadium, sale...

Re: Vikings Stadium

People who think stadiums have no impact on local economies should go talk to some business owners on west 7th street in St Paul. Ask them if they are doing better or worse with the NHL lockout.
