Re: 2601 Lyndale Ave S (vacant lot, former hardware store)
Some of the side streets off of Lyndale are fully parked in by 9pm, I'm not sure about that block in particular but parking on Garfield and Harriet is tough at times. I live at 22nd and Garfield and usually don't get off work until late, I usually have to park 2 to 3 blocks from my apartment (which ...

Re: Izzy's Ice Cream Factory
At the same time, it's a factory, so probably not a great view for pedestrians. Unless they have it set up like a Krispy Kreme shop ;) It will be made up for I think. Love it. ;) Speak for yourself. I love doing factory tours. :) Actually, they'd be crazy not to do something... like a brewery tour....

Re: Junction Flats - (643 Fifth Street North)
[offtopic] Why is it unrealistic to assume that some point in the next 10 years the HERC land will be prime real estate and a new garbage burner can be relocated somewhere out of the city's core? Because it is unrealistic. What neighborhood or suburb would ever accept a garbage burner being built? ...

Re: Loring Vue Apartments - (415 Oak Grove Street)
Turning a house into a restaurant is rarely a good idea. It causes all sorts of problems with execution and finances due to the fact that houses are not designed to be restaurants. I was the head chef of one for four years (Duplex). Never again. The other element is that once you turn a house into a...

Re: Downtown Restaurant News
Not to be a dick but I'm not sad to see spill the wine go. Maybe something that doesn't suck will move in... I interviewed for the head chef position there a few months after it opened. It was the weirdest job interview I've ever had. I didn't get a good vibe. It was obvious from body language and ...

Re: Loring Park Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
The two compelling factors for any tower discussed here is 1. how pretty it will be. 2. profitable. Your fun is my lack of sleep and hassle getting around the community I live in. The long and the short of it is that the population of the Twin Cities is growing so we have to build more housing. You...

Nightclubs typically have high turnover. They are often hobby businesses or opened by neophytes with other people's money so they go out of business all the time. It doesn't reflect on the general health of a nightclub district.

If a proposal like this is controversial even on a generally pro development website like this one then it doesn't have a chance in hell with the general public. I would bet a million imaginary dollars that they don't get their variances. I live in the neighborhood and I think this would be a bad id...

Re: Peavey Plaza reconstruction project
I would be shocked if homeless people didn't continue to hang out in Peavey Plaza after it was renovated. Why wouldn't they? The lesson of the Gateway Project was that we can't solve social problems by knocking down buildings (or in this case a park).

Re: Peavey Plaza reconstruction project
Take the people out of that rendering and you have a really bland, nondescript public space. If this thing goes through I wouldn't be surprised if it was quickly regarded as worse than what it replaced.

Re: City Walk Uptown - (1312 West Lake Street)
I was at Cowbly Slim's the other day for lunch, and they mentioned they are closing the last weekend in September. One would assume construction would start sometime this fall. Wonderful news! The neighborhood groups should hold a celebration when that thing gets torn down! I have never understood ...

Re: Uptown Theatre
I thought the McDonalds was the heart of some uptown music scene that existed before a lot of us were born, so people think it is historic or culturally significant. They tore that down to build the new McDonalds, the one that is currently standing. That was around the mid 90s. Once they tore down ...

Rents are high enough that most regular chains lose money on their Uptown stores. They locate there for marketing purposes, being in high traffic locations can strengthen your brand and lead to higher sales elsewhere. This is the theory anyway. It is likely that Express doesn't feel compelled to los...

Aren't most of the old apartment buildings (1890 - 1930) stick construction with ornamental brick? They seem to have held up pretty well.

The main congestion issues in Uptown are on Friday and Saturday night. It isn't neighborhood residents causing that, they are walking to places.

Re: Surly Brewery Site
Omar Ansari who owns Surly was a regular at a restaurant I used to be the chef of. I have a vauge recollection of talking to him about brewery sites and him saying they needed to be next to a rail spur so they could receive their grain via rail. If that is still true then it is a significant limit o...

Re: Trader Joes (Lyndale and 27th)
I live a block from the Wedge. There is a special place in hell for people who try to make left turns into the Wedge parking lot during rush hour. It is probably the reason Lyndale traffic is so messed up around there. The fact that they have hired an off duty cop to direct traffic in and out of the...

If you get rid of the buses on the Nicollet Mall you will also get rid of a lot of the people too. It is probably the biggest transfer point in the entire Metro Transit system. Does anybody else remember when the Nicollet buses were rerouted down Hennepin last spring for construction? I was photogra...

This project is civic vandalism. They are tearing down half of an urban block and replacing it with a big box store.
