Re: Presidential Election 2016
One has got to "love" the timing of this as well. After such a successful Thursday and before the Saturday night (and star wars weekend/prime time NFL game/weekend before Christmas) debate. (though the blowback could also be helpful, this will be interesting/eventful to be sure.) This shou...

Re: Presidential Election 2016
At noon there will be a press conference where the Bernie Sanders campaign addresses this. Apparently Debbie Wasserman Schultz went on MSNBC to accuse the Sanders campaign of downloading voter files, while the data director that was fired has been interviewed and said he was testing the breach to fi...

Re: Zip Rail and NAHSRG Rail to Rochester
So, a few things from the documents. These are the two best links. I'll just be posting various observations and such here. http://www.scribd.com/doc/291524801/NAHSR-Business-Plan-MNDOT http://www.scribd.com/doc/291588481/Summary-of-Zip-Rail-Data-From-Administrator-Reports --------------------------...

Re: Black Lives Matter, The Police, etc.
I think you may be imputing views to BLM that much of BLM does not actually hold. What I was saying wasn't that they hold X or Y views, but that they can't (easily) spread their message(s) to everyone, and generally why that is. It's the mechanism through which the spread of that message is impeded...

Re: Black Lives Matter, The Police, etc.
Something that should be mentioned is that BLM doesn't have access to the levers they would need to reach the uninformed people we're talking about. The degree of self-segregation in all aspects of life, whether it be in education and housing, or social circles and media consumption, is a difficult ...

Re: Northern Lights Express
The project manager says they expect the feds to cover 80% of the cost, yet the problems with that are A) there is no federal money set aside for passenger rail right now or in the near future This isn't actually true, a federal transportation bill did just set aside $10.3 billion for passenger rai...

Re: Zip Rail and NAHSRG Rail to Rochester
It seems that there have been more data requests over the past month, and more released information. These are the links to the articles I've read. Some of the information contained therein doesn't mean much to me nor CCARL (lacking proper contextual knowledge), but may mean more to some of you (lik...

Re: Presidential Election 2016
It has nothing to do with feelings, and everything to do with the health and vitality of our democracy, and society. Of course, productive discourse isn't something everyone values, so whatever. I'm sure there's a new Trumpism to be gossiped about.

Re: Black Lives Matter, The Police, etc.
And if I'm understanding correctly it's saying nearly *half* of all african-americans have been arrested? That's some serious oppressive police state garbage there. I could be wrong, but it's my understanding that the underemployment rate for African American youth is 50%, while roughly 25% of Afri...

Free Idea: Use parking podiums to shield against rising sea levels. When the lower floors are swamped, nothing of value is lost. The top floors of the podiums can be converted into a skyway‐like system of paths/spaces for pedestrians, transit(probably streetcars), and retail when the ocean takes the...

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
It looks like more of a detour than it is because the northern stretch of the loop runs along Maplewood Mall Dr instead of County Rd D. (doing so improves the "Mall North" station's walkshed (not being as close to the freeway), and makes the intersection of County Rd D, 694, and WBA less m...

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
So I refined my old concept and routed it along White Bear Ave. Having checked the traffic counts, and factoring in stretches of extra open space here and there along the route that could be used to add a lane when needed, most of the route can probably have dedicated lanes. Station spaces are often...

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
I'm not entirely sure on how to phrase my thoughts here, but the potential of fitting a hybrid form (when necessary) of LRT down white bear ave is actually exciting enough to prevent me from sleeping (good thing I don't have to do anything tomorrow!) The positive impact for both the east side and fo...

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
• Reviewing hybrid rail solutions that include smaller vehicles. • Reviewing utilization of a shared guideway through constrained right-of-way areas. • Including more defined impacts to natural environment and cultural resources. The inclusion of white bear ave and the above sounds reminiscent of t...

There is a caveat, in which many of those endorsements happened before the actual election season, as far back as 2013 because of the "ready for Hillary" thing. We do know that "opinions" have "evolved" in much shorter periods of time. ;) As far as money goes, both had ...

Re: Presidential Election 2016
Here to note that the next Democratic debate is on a Saturday evening on the weekend before Christmas, which is also the big star wars premier weekend. Most people won't watch the debate, and most people who do will see it through the filter of the establishment media.
