Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News

Loring Kitchen doesn't surprise me at all. I've never had anything there that I could remember the next day. Several years ago they had a risotto with truffle oil that I've imitated at home, but yeah. We used to go a lot before we started eating close to all of our meals at home, but with the new e...

Re: Black Lives Matter, The Police, etc.

The process IS the problem. Thus, "the whole damn system is guilty." I'm quite concerned about Ellison saying it's with the grand jury now. I'm hoping Freeman won't use the grand jury as prosecutors often do in police-involved cases, as a tool to shift blame for his decision not the prose...

Re: Black Lives Matter, The Police, etc.

Who would that be though? Start with the police union and go from there. I don't know how important it is to Ellison, but it may not be irrelevant. He's probably not getting a lot calls from wealthy south Minneapolitans, but I'm pretty sure there are plenty of them that are annoyed by BLM and prote...

Re: Renting vs. Owning | Apartments vs. Condos

How much would it cost to flip 771SF? Maybe $20,000 to make this place look legit. I'm with MNdible on this one. The only downside is a $420/mo HOA, but I have to imagine that's par for the course downtown. That's pretty low, actually. I looked at 2 bedrooms in this building several years ago. Unit...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map

$153K for a condo in one of the best locations in town, and people are complaining about old appliances and carpet? The exterior and common spaces are dated too and I wouldn't want to take out a mortgage on a place like that, probably won't go up in value much if at all. They re-did the lobby/entry...

Re: Black Lives Matter, The Police, etc.

What gets me is that if what they are trying to do is get people to go home and stop blocking the street, holding press conferences and publicly calling for it is not the way to do that. It only prolongs the protest, giving people something new to defy. But they must know that, which suggests that t...

Re: Southside - General Topics

Now if only that gas station can be demolished and a new half-block mixed-use development in its place, I'd be thrilled.
You idea is better. Especially if it comes with a good Indian restaurant.

Re: Southside - General Topics

Haven't seen this posted: IE (Italian Eatery) has recently opened at 47th and Cedar. Went this weekend and it was quite good. There's enough cobbled together commercial in the area that they have a full liquor license. We went on Wednesday, which happened to be their "grand opening." I wa...

Re: Black Lives Matter, The Police, etc.

I'm already dreading the "self-defense" stories the shooters seem likely to try to sell to get off. A deal I was working on closed Tuesday morning, so I went up to join the march. Absent the shooting, I probably would not have as I'm not much for protesting and chanting, but I thought it w...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map

This mural, on the (vacant?) building at 10th and Hennepin now appears to be complete. I hope this gets to be a trend, there's a lot more blank walls on Hennepin.
That's the former National Camera Exchange building? Still empty last I looked.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

Oh no! How could that happen? What did the CC person say? Public works decided they didn't like them and started to take them out. Ethan (and others) noticed and made a stink. A couple of counsel members got them to hold off for a bit, and then public works promised they'd replaced them with... som...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

Saw 2 different cars smash through a few of the plastic poles on 28th st. Laat night. It was enough to convince me that those are not enough, and that curbs are needed.
Have the 28th and 26th street pedestrian refuges been removed yet, or was that action blocked somehow?
They are gone.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map

Actually, I think this is more where the stadium would have been. Keep going to your right. That low building on the very right of the frame is the one that Maguire reportedly had an option to buy and the stadium proposal was supposed to be all the way over next to the bend in Royalston, I think. B...

Re: Minneapolis City Budget FY2015 & FY2016

While we're talking mostly in theory, I have a hard time believing that a modest SFR wouldn't still be very valuable in a Minneapolis neighborhood as the really nice, expensive 4BR SFR next door. I'm thinking 50s Edina ramblers that sell for $350k+ despite being 2, maybe 3 BR and an outdated layout...

Also, when it was really cold, I'd duck into the first possible building and get underground. Which works better/more intuitively on the West Bank where my classes were clustered.
