Re: Bernie Sanders
PS: There's this very prolific reddit account I just noticed called "CANT_TRUST_HILLARY". https://i.imgur.com/GU53jbg.png Not only is it new, but holy shit has it been doing stuff (average of about 10k link karma per day and 1k comment karma per day). Right now, as I type this, there are 3...

Re: Bernie Sanders
so, uh, Sanders now has a bedrock-lead in NH, and it's looking like Iowa has followed the same path, and he's been making some inroads in earning support from african americans. Still a month until the first debate~ On the republican side, it looks like Trump and Carson are currently doing pretty we...

Re: Transportation Funding (General)
forcing 19th century technology into a 21st century community. I agree. We should stop forcing Benz's monsterous 19th century creation into every aspect of our modern communities! Cars were invented in the 19th century, and that's, like, hundreds of years ago! https://i.imgur.com/Urp9x9U.png /s one...

Re: Suburbs - General Topics
Oh, yeah. While I wasn't entirely clear in doing so (since I just edited it in quickly), noting the shared school district was meant to tie into merging the suburban cities (sans St Paul) together, since it has already effectively blended the three together socially.

Re: Suburbs - General Topics
I think a city-county merger of St Paul-Ramsey County was discussed somewhere here before. With St Paul having roughly 3/5 of Ramsey County's population, it could theoretically defacto annex the rest of the county that way. Now that would be an interesting happening. Edit: Oakdale, North St Paul, an...

It's ok, because St Paul can just tax the rest of the state to make it work.

Minnesota State Fair
Thought I'd make a thread for the state fair since there isn't one yet. Have there been any studies about attendance capacity at the fair? With population growth and densification, I'd figure there will be a point at which they convert some of the parking to more fairgrounds. Ideally in the future w...

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
The depth needed under an LRT overpass (minimum 8', optimum 10') plus the parking garage entrance on Sibley north of the train deck is why an at-grade LRT crossing of Kellogg and Sibley won't work.. It would be an embankment, not an overpass. Except where it goes over the parking portal, which alre...

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
I do agree with froggie on the red line turning directly on to Robert from 4th. As for only having "couple of buses and an amtrak train" on the concourse, as it's already generally been said, this LRT will be in place for decades; intercity services will catch up. On the topic of local ser...

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
A few insights from what I've heard some very influential people say. >They're very determined in getting this built >This was going to be LRT from the beginning. >They'd like to (and think they can) do this for between $400-500M (largely due to the already-owned ROW), easing the acquisition of fund...

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
The phrase "There is literally nothing wrong with X" is a somewhat hyperbolic/ironic meme, but in seriousness, I would run it along part of Kellogg. The current route could be kept, but turn onto Kellogg right after Central station, and run it to the Depot. It's sort of silly to rebuild it...

There is literally nothing wrong with running it along Kellogg. That would have required running it along Kellogg instead of 4th, or added two more sloooooowwwww turns. The only mistake was building the maint building too close to Broadway

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
what about if they wanted to build parking ramps? I'd image that would be even less cost-effective than keeping them as parking lots, but just to be thorough.
