Re: Driver testing

I heard some neighbor kids at NNO mention how if they get a license at 16 they need to take behind-the-wheel and a road test, whereas if they waited until 18 they did not need behind-the-wheel and they only would take a written test. Can anyone confirm? My wife is going through this, having just mo...

Re: U.S. Bank Stadium Construction Updates

No auto flushes means those who choose may abide by the 'If it's yellow let it mellow' rule. True, and lets be honest... The actual toilets just eventually become urinals that waste more water than regular urinals. Hopefully they installed dual flush handles (up for pee, down for poo). I pity the m...

Re: Southside - General Topics

I see there's scaffolding up around New Franklin Theater, finally.
Google doesn't tell me what the ultimate plans are for the use of the building.
Anyways, thrilled I won't have to look at those crumbling bricks for long.

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image

I suspect (and I've never found any good evidence to actually back this up, so grain of salt and all) that the issue is that Minnesota lacks a robust black middle to upper class, and this sort of becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you're a black kid from a poor neighborhood that overcomes the o...

Re: Stadium Parking Ramp Development Site

The "front" of this is ok/fine. When I look at the view of the "back" however I really wish they would cover the top level of parking, be it a cheap roof structure or some usable office space.
Worlds better than the WF buildings.

Is Chicago Ave > Vikings Way over and dead?
IMO we should rename 494 in Eagan "Vikings Way"
A small part of me does hope they ask to rename Dodd Rd.

Same thing I said about the Vikings stadium; we'd be better off if they built this at the fairgrounds and sold this land.

In my experience on the Red Line drivers still need to extend the ramp for almost all wheelchairs.
Level boarding=marketing gimmick that does next to nothing practically speaking.

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha LRT)

Per a speedometer smart phone app, south bound blue line trains hit about 23 when they hit the 46th street intersection and get to about 26 by the time the front of the train clears the intersection. and the northbound trains are going much faster than that. I've seen many people making dumb moves ...

Re: Road Crime

Bike nearly everyday in MPLS, wintertime included, and never had any incidents. I usually follow the traffic laws. I've been hit by cars twice on my bike, both times in Eagan near my job. If I'm too close to the curb they don't see me and if I'm too far out in MY lane I'm threatened/harassed by the ...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

With the Hennepin County plan to eliminate the last of the incandescent traffic lights, I noticed that after 84th and 82nd / Nicollet intersections were converted the walk signs would go on for the cross streets. I asked the county engineer and he said "no we're not enabling ped recall. 84th h...

Going past the former Kaplan Bros today I noticed they are constructing a new entrance on Lake St., complete with stylish shiny black tiles many of you may be very familiar with. I can't decide if I like the fact they're falling off the other buildings they are on or not. Expect the amateur s...

Re: Minneapolis Fiber Internet and Cable Services

I can think of a half dozen policy priorities that are more important to equity and the future of Mpls than ensuring everyone has the same number of cable channels. 1. Work to ensure choice in providers gets to residents in multifamily housing, working to prevent monopolies inside apartment blocks,...
