Re: Arby's Site Apartments - (1016 Washington Avenue Southea

Huh look at that. That's different from what I was thinking, too. For this guy, I kinda hope they do the individual units in a way that doesn't preclude non-students from living there. It'll be close to the light rail stations and so I could see young adults enjoying the location. At this point we'v...

Building's totally gone and there's a Doran trailer on the site. Did they ever actually get approval to build something here??

Re: Trader Joes (Lyndale and 27th)

Isn't part of Uptown's cachet that it's close to so many businesses? Is Meg concerned more with a Trader Joe's than with the national chain bro bars coming in? Can you be more specific about "bro bars"? Some bros drink MGD and workout, some bros smoke weed and play Madden. Tons of diversi...

Re: University of Minnesota

Pfreyre, I bet you'd love this article ! I wouldn't really disagree with you that higher education right now is mid-bubble. That said, when the dust settles, actual schools like the University of Minnesota will still be there. Right now there's an overwhelming (and misguided) desire for everyone ev...

Posting In General

Hey gang, So we're a couple months into this whole adventure now. For the most part, everything has gone pretty well. Now that we have good content and lots of threads put together, let's try to think of ways to clean up a little and improve the site. One thing I want to do is keep things consolidat...

Re: The Edge on Oak

Come on. What is with this fake brick crap? You know we had brick buildings in the 1800's. Why would any developer want to make their building look like it was built 130 years ago? This is horrible. If I were Minneapolis I would pass ordinances that specifically ban new construction from using cert...

Re: Stick vs. Concrete Construction

Related structural question which hopefully isn't stupid: If a large building is being built and foundations are driven down deep into the ground for, say, a ten story building, does that permanently effect the ability of that site to host future large buildings? So if a mid-rise building has steel ...

Re: Magellan Apartment Tower - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)

um... Just noticed the word "Magellan" was added to the thread title... is it safe to assume that is the name? The selection of the name instantly give it a dated feel  IMO ...I know we all can't expect a developer to understand every trend in society and understand the possi...

Re: Vikings Stadium

Another option would be to designate certain roads surrounding the stadium for tailgating. Allow the cars to park diagonally and turn a street into a pedestrian mall, which is essentially is anyway. Certain areas of 4th St. could do this right now for Vikings games and hardly cause traffic problems...

Re: Lower St. Anthony Falls Whitewater Park

Huge draw? Your definition and mine must be different. I'm not saying it wouldn't be unique and interesting, but I hardly think it would draw a ton of people. I can think of maybe 3 people in my life that would ever even consider going on something like this and I know a lot of people that are outd...

Re: Office Market

I really wish we'd see the end of major growth in suburban corporate campuses (at least the ones which require new interchanges, only accessible by car, etc.) It's really a shame companies still think this is what employees want. I've turned down gigs because they're at some corporate campus outsid...

Re: Minneapolis Urban Planning

It would be nice to tackle the sprawl in Twin Cities and one way to do it would be with the creation of a developmental boundary through the Metro Council. Not exactly sure how you would draw those lines being it would be political suicide, but it could be interesting to follow the example Portland...

Re: Third North

At some point in the near future, take some time out of your day to look at some other cities on Google Earth. Just pick random places...New York, Boston, Philly, whatever floats your boat. Just zoom into to like the 2 mile distance, and grab the streetview guy on the scroll bar, and plop him anywhe...
