Re: Saint Paul Streetcars

Looks like St. Paul will further study the E 7th - W 7th line and compare it to enhanced bus services. Also, a report of a the public comments,

I've been seeing a lot of MT tweets about delays recently. Hopefully these issues can be resolved.

Re: Stadium Parking Ramp Air Rights Development

This + WF development + Stadium will do a lot for Downtown East. Maybe with some renovations of HCMC to make it less of a fortress, we could see the Mill District and Elliot Park flow into each other.

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha LRT)

I've found peak hour trains to be late as well. I suppose downtown cross-traffic is the main culprit. Problems have probably been compounded since service frequency was reduced from 7.5 min to 10 min. As for the waiting areas on the platform not being accommodating of winter weather, that is a probl...

Re: MSP Airport

Shame about the loss of DCA service on US, that's the most convenient airport in DC. I guess United still has service to IAD.

United is also starting service to LAX soon, so that'll be good for competition.

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

So I re-listened to the story, and I guess the trains wouldn't be placed on berms, but there was no description of the new alternative. So it's probably at-grade.

Maybe I misunderstood the story. I thought that they had mentioned putting the freight in a trench.

Sounds like a good idea to me anyways.

Re: Snelling BRT/enhanced bus

Looking through some of the presentations given, it does seem that the bus shelters have space provisioned for ticketing, so perhaps my concerns were unfounded. Maybe they are looking into a smaller TVM than what is provided at LRT stops?

I would imagine that the upper floors closest to the river will have a pretty good view of the city.

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

I heard on the MPR story last week that the new plan was to put freight in a trench in SLP instead of a berm. Supposedly this would alleviate the concerns about a train derailing and falling onto homes and causing an explosion. I think single track between West Lake and the Cedar Lake channel crossi...

Re: Former Macy's Site

The problem is the surrounding areas are horrendous for urban form (Norwest Center, Town Square, World Trade Center, US Bank, etc), that the Dayton's building is contributing to the death of street life and of the area. If it was surrounded by good, well-designed buildings, then I would think a cons...

Re: Snelling BRT/enhanced bus

Ah, thanks for the update, mulad. I think that the best location for a station between Como and Larpenteur is at Midway Parkway. The stop is already popular during the State Fair, and providing an Arterial BRT station right at the front door could help promote transit to visitors. The advantage of a...

Re: Atlanta

Traffic here is only bad in rush hour, which is a problem in all cities. Atlanta also has 5.8 million people, which is essentially twice the population of the Twin Cities. Urban sprawl is 70% of the Twin Cities by population. Removing the freeways will just cause economic meltdown, as it will be imp...

National Rail = commuter and intercity rail. Most of London's commuter rail lines feed into one of the main stations (Waterloo, kings cross, st. Pancreas, London bridge, paddington, Victoria, etc). In fact, the original Metropolitan line was designed to connect all of the rail terminals to each othe...

Re: Atlanta

From what I understand about Atlanta, is that the city is reliant on arterials and freeways as there really isn't a good grid.

Additionally, the MARTA rail really only serves the central city, and some of the rougher areas at that.
