Re: What will it take to develop DTE?
I don't think parking is a huge issue. The surface parking lots within walking distance only provide several thousand parking spots. Many Vikings fans park in underground lots in downtown. The perfect scenario would be new office towers closer to the dome which had adequate parking space to replace ...

Re: Vikings Stadium
If the design is done right, the stadium can be used for much more than just sporting events. The TCF stadium with its large suites is used weddings and other reception type events. If they incorporate a large atrium area, they could rent it out for corporate events, exhibits and much more. The prob...

Re: Vikings Stadium
If they can pull off the first one, I'll be extremely happy. It would be the most modern looking stadium in the whole country and not just for football.

Re: What will it take to develop DTE?
I think the reason the area has not been developed is because people have been waiting for ten years to see what would become of the Metro Dome. Now that we know the vikings stadium will be the center point of DTE, developers will start rolling out plans as soon as the final stadium proposal is unve...

Re: Hines Office Project - (350 North Fifth Street)
You can write off anything you want on your taxes, but you only get to deduct your expense for the item and not the market value.Maybe, in theory, they could give the space to the non-profit for free and write it off as a donation on their taxes?

I'm very optimistic and can't wait for construction to start. This is the kind of project we've been waiting 5-6 years for.

Re: 330 South 12th
Having worked in hotels for years, I can guarantee you that this will not be any taller than it needs to be. When you're looking at managing a hotel with over 1,000 rooms, you goal is efficiency, something that you lose with every added floor since you rely on elevators to move guests and employees ...

Re: Sears
I've been in to the sears a few times, but only because I forgot something and knew it was right there. If I had to choose, I'd never shop there. The store is mainly empty with very few employees and fewer customers. Once the the central corridor is up and running, I wouldn't be surprised if this pl...

Re: Gold Medal Plaza - (935 Second Street South)
If they could get the approval to add 3-5 more floors to it, it think it would help with the look of their neighborhood. I don't think we need anything over 15 floors in this neighborhood, but it would be nice to have some height variances. I like the colors of the original Zenith building, but havi...

Re: Block E
When I lived downtown, I frequented the Block E theater at least twice a month. When block E has good tenants, it was extremely successful. I remember going to movie openings and the place was completely packed on a Friday night. I think what really hurt was when AMC stepped in and puchsed the theat...

Downtown Hotel News
Since we have a generic thread for restaurant news, I thought I'd kick on off for hotels. Over the weekends, the Star Tribune reported that the Ameriprise financial is in the process of purchasing the Ivy Hotel. It may be a bit odd for Ameriprise to step into this space, but they do bring quite a fe...

If memory serves me right, that's where Northern Auto Parts was located. It's nice that they want to get rid of an old building, but I'm not sure if people would really want to live in this area.

Re: RS Eden Emanuel - (822 Third Street South)
I love the fact that this construction is happening on the other side of Washington, but I feel it's going to be a wall, blocking things off a little. Hopefully we'll see more development in this area to help tie this building into better once the stadium plans are unveiled and approved.

Re: Lower St. Anthony Falls Whitewater Park
I'd agree that this is not going to be a huge draw, but a unique attraction is much better than the park board simply turning more land into parks. People don't go to parks because they are big, they do there because there is something specific they want to do. During this summer months, this new ri...

Re: Dock Street Apartments
With all the construction and new proposals, things are starting to feel like we're back in 2003-2004. The scale of the projects are a lot smaller, but that's probably a good thing. I'm sure we would all enjoy seeing a tower go in here and there, but the most important aspect is that the building de...

Glad to see this project moving along. I was down at Tuggs a few weeks back and it didn't even cross my mind to walk by to see the construction site. I know it's nothing compared to the grand projects that were originally plans for this area a few years back, but I honestly think this project will a...

I love the idea of having apartments in this building. Getting more residents to live right thin the core of the city is key to keeping the city alive and thriving. Does anyone know how much they plan to change for these apartments?

This building is going up fast. Have most buildings this size been put together with pre-fabbed walls?
