Re: Portland Tower - 516 S. 8th St.

back on topic....

What type of retail would you like to see go in on the ground floor of the building. Looks like it's not that large of a space. The obvious choices are a coffee shop or convenience store. I honestly don't think the space would get leased until something goes in across the street,

Re: Portland Tower - 516 S. 8th St.

I think an affordable condos in downtown are possible, but the building would have to sacrifice a lot of amenities and the finished in the units would need to be cheap. While someone who makes $50- $70k per year on their own would like to live downtown, I don't think many of them would choose a cond...

Re: Nye's Redevelopment - 100 block of E Hennepin Avenue

Yes, the new building would absorb future vibrations from buses and traffic, but they are worried that the church will be damaged by the vibrations caused during construction.

Re: 700 Central Avenue Northeast Apartments

I was wondering the same thing. I really hope we hear something soon. This isn't a massive project, but it will be a nice bookend to the neighborhood and could spur more development along the corridor.

I love how it looks, but I'm still disappointed that none of those new buildings offer retail space.

Re: Thresher Square Hotel & Washington/Chicago Apartments

I like how the development completes the block. It would be nice if the design of the building could be broken up a little in some way, but it's 1000 times better than what's there now - nothing. I think the building's retail will be a very good asset to the neighborhood. The new Wells Fargo buildin...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

So, what's the timeline going to look like?

Personally, I think this block could accommodate a second 10-20 floor tower on the opposite corner to add more office space to this side of downtown.

Re: Xcel Energy HQ - (401 Nicollet Mall)

It's nice that they will have a direct connection between the two buildings, but I'm not sure how I feel about it being a private skyway, not accessible to the public.

Re: RBC Plaza / Gaviidae II renovation

Radio Shack is closing a lot of stores, but our downtown location actually does fairly well compared to most of their stores. I hope the location stays and gets updated to its new retail concept that they launched in late 2013. Edit: I guess I should read the latest news of the day before posting. L...

No real standout feature, but I like it. I'd rather have 3-5 mis-matched small buildings like this on a block than one massive project.

^For some reason, that immediately made me think of the house in that "Up" movie. http://hookedonhouses.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Pixars-Up-house-with-picket-fence.jpg Actually, that IS the house that inspired the movie. Great article on it here: http://www.buzzfeed.com/jessicaprobus...

Re: Mississippi Market - 740 East 7th Street

It's progressing quite nicely. They should be done with the steel frame of the building in about a week. The senior rental building proposed for the other half of the block is getting resistance from the community. They claim it's too tall for 7th street (which I don't agree with) and they're not ha...

Re: RBC Plaza / Gaviidae II renovation

I'm a bit sad that they didn't find a way to keep the jumping fountains. It also looks like Gaviidae has completely given up on it's waterfall fountain by filling the bottom with plants.

Re: LPM Apartments - (376' - 36 Stories)

Give it time. This is the most expensive building in Minneapolis. The are quite a lot of people who are wanting to live in downtown, but very few who can justify spending $1400 on a 650 sq ft apartment. I think the building would be a little more attractive to some if it was 2-3 blocks closer to the...

Re: Alatus St. Anthony Tower (Washburn-McReavy Site)

I don't think they are planning to cover the ramp in class. It'll probably be a perforated metal screen which creates a design based on the placement and size of the holes similar to the parking garage screen of the Mountain Dwellings condo building in Copenhagen. https://c1.staticflickr.com/7/6150/...

Re: Farmers Market Soccer Stadium

Wasn't the cost of the TCF stadium under $300 million? Soccer specific stadiums usually have capacity of 20,000-25,000 here in the US and they don't have expensive ticket items like luxury boxes or banquette facilities. An $80 million price tag for the stadium (just the building) seems about right a...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

I think this is a good move. If the two restaurants move down to towards UPS and GNC, it will spread out the foot traffic during the lunch hour. Leeann Chin usually has a line out the door between 12 and 12:30 and Baja Sol is starting to get busy again now that they brought back the free chips. I'm ...

Re: Nye's Polonaise Room - 100 block of E Hennepin Avenue

This might be a stupid question, but why are there no project that are condo/rental? I know that the financial side of things changes based on the type of building it is, but why not build something and give people the option to rent of buy?

I'm sure I'm missing something that's very obvious.

Re: Corner Apartments - (2nd St NE and 1st Ave NE)

I was actually thinking the same thing. Hopefully they are rethinking their proposal since the market seems to be so hot right now. We have three major developments on this side of the river that are more than 10 floors, so why not build something taller and more dense here as well?
