Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
This is one of those situations where even if the bird argument was bogus (and to be clear I believe it is legit), it's mind-boggling the MSFA doesn't just go along for some positive PR now, and more importantly to avoid negative PR later. Sooner or later a hawk is gonna fly into the stadium on game...

Re: Nighthawks (38th & Nicollet)
Pepito's was only considered 'authentic Mexican' because Minnesotan's thought Chi-Chis and Esteban's was actually Mexican. In the intervening 20 years, the food scene here has evolved a bit and now it is obvious Pepito's has always been, quite frankly, bad-inauthentic Mexican food.

Re: Minneapolis Park System
It seems to me that if we are to seriously consider closing city parks due to crime problems, Hidden Beach should probably be about 10th on the list. It's an absurd suggestion.

Re: Nighthawks (38th & Nicollet)
Could use some trees or something. While it's nice to see all the business activity, something about it still feels a little exposed and uninviting. Bump outs would have helped.

Re: Uptown Restaurant News
RIght, but I'm not considering beer bars to be real bars. The way the gentrification is going, I can foresee a time when it is nigh on impossible to get a cocktail for under $15 in a zip code higher than 55404. It's not just bars though. There are other types of businesses that exist/existed in Upto...

Re: Uptown Restaurant News
I'll ask what the increasing gentrification/cultural homogeneity of Uptown might mean to Minneapolis planning elsewhere. I've always believed that while the gentrification might make an area of town a little less interesting, a rising tide generally lifts all boats and creates new 'interesting' oppo...

Re: Uptown Restaurant News
I actually think Lagos Tacos has pretty decent tacos, not the best ever, but I'd say a solid B+. The prices are a tad high, but the portions are almost too large, so having gone there twice, I ordered 'smarter' the second time around. The patio is very pleasant on a warm evening. I hope they stick a...

Re: TCF Bank Building Redevelopment
Design criticism's aside, I think these angles show it can be done without overshadowing the Foshay. This is a great spot for a tall building.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
I don't understand how this line not getting built = doing nothing. There's plenty more to do that matters rather than building an LRT line so that we can go hit up some chain restaurants. Where will we have the UrbanMSP SWLRT Happy Hour? The Buca Di Beppo across the highway from Mitchell Station? ...

Re: Permit Parking
Maybe the solution is to do permit parking but open up the permits to anyone.
Which is just a modification of metered parking.

Re: Permit Parking
Well presumably it would be offset by increased demand and higher prices elsewhere (assuming the demand didn't just go away). But your point is well taken. Take it to the absurd conclusion: everyone in the blocks south of Lake Street gets rid of their cars. So we just have empty streets generating n...

Re: Target Field Station
Ok, I've followed this thread, so apologies, but can someone give a succinct for dummies version of why we built 'Target Field Station' when I observed it not even used when leaving Target Field today? No snark intended. I just don't get it. Is there a grander long range plan?

Re: Pedestrian Safety and Infrastructure Improvements
I guess I might misunderstand the trail crossing rules. I've always thought that street traffic has the right-of-way unless there is a specific stop sign or other such signal. In fact most trails I cross have stop signs for bikes and peds on the trail (the Midtown Greenway and Kenilworth trails, fo...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
While I don't believe ProspectPete has ever explicitly mentioned the race of the young man, the discussion here seems to indicate we all assume he was black. Assuming that to be the case I can't help but think that tolerating offensive behaviour simply because of the race of the offender seems far m...

Re: Nice Ride Minnesota
Non-profits can be profitable. If the profits are unrelated to their core mission, however they may be taxable. What they can't do is distribute profits. If Nice Ride makes a profit on renting bikes, selling station sponsorships, etc.. they are probably in no danger of losing tax-exempt status. Basi...

Re: The Penfield - (101 10th Street East)
Yeah, it just looks so contrived . I remember buildings in college that were 100 years old, and had been remodeled and expanded repeatedly. It reminds me of those, but it's brand new . EDIT: for my sanity, let's not have anyone post side-by-sides of the original tower proposal and what actually got ...

Re: Vikings Stadium
To continue to take this further OT, my cynic sense does give me a very faint feeling that football may be on its way out in the next couple decades. I say that as a Gopher football season ticket holder who enjoys watching football, and is going to a Vikings game next week, but...it's becoming incr...

Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)
I actually got to the point of complaining about the Lund's in Highland Park. I'd go in there and the produce section would look like absolute crap as often as it would look nice (empty bins, wilted leaves and vegetable detritus littering the floor, etc.) Lund's is a cut above the 'typical' grocery ...
