Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

*The camera's are part of the Vision Zero plan. They are hoping to get something passed in St Paul to allow for it. *I think the cameras will help with some of the infractions, however when the issue is stolen Kias they aren't going to help. The AG and others have been working on it and it's unresol...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

Here is a quote from Minneapolis's Vision Zero Action Plan. "Due to a variety of factors, Minneapolis Police stopped fewer than 3,000 people in 2021 for moving or equipment violations—compared to about 16,000 traffic stops in 2019 and about 90,000 traffic stops in 2012" If traffic laws ar...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

A little frustrating that it's only stop signs, not stoplights, but thinking more about it, most stop lights that I'd be comfortable treating as a stop sign are on low-enough traffic streets that they should be four-way stops anyway, so I guess the move is to advocate for that. 35th and Bryant come...

Re: Housing Market/Economics - General Topics

Man, that's not a convincing piece. I'm begging people to become more naturally skeptical of pieces that eschew any kind of analysis in favor of a lot of political in-group signaling and ad hominem attacks. Sometimes I wonder what people think economics is, because the way they write about the fiel...

Re: Minneapolis 2023 Elections - City Council

It's not just this Ward or this election. They've been issues across the city and across elections. The Mpls DFL isn't capable of orchestrating proper caucuses.

Re: Minneapolis 2023 Elections - City Council

On Saturday, there were supposed to be two Ward Conventions. Ward 5 was canceled because they couldn't figure out logistics will have no endorsement and Ward 10 had a fight and ended with no endorsement decided yet. Seems like the Mpls DFL is becoming a burden on the MN DFL and struggling to endorse...

Re: Southside - News & General Topics

One of the buildings there (the one closest to the freeway) is relatively new and has a modern design, but the old Honeywell campus is a mishmash of awkward spaces. It will be interesting to see what becomes of it - it does seem like it might be more valuable overall as a teardown but perhaps a blo...

Wal-Mart also closed the University Ave store not terribly long ago. I wonder how the Robbinsdale Hyvee is doing? Maybe that will be the next store to close. Their prices are higher than the nearby Cub.

Re: Minneapolis Street Design

Honestly, right now we need people to just follow the traffic laws. You want less pedestrian and cycling deaths..then maybe they should follow the laws? I got into an argument with a cyclist when running as I watched a light turn green and right after it turns green he goes in front of 3 lanes of ca...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT

There's a bike trail down there? I've forgotten it's been closed for so long. I also rarely go on the opened segments of the Cedar Lake Trail.

Also the detoured segment from Downtown to Van White got taken out by a plow truck a month ago and has been partially reincorporated back into Dunwoody Blvd.

Re: Minneapolis Street Design

If Minneapolis wants to create safer streets maybe they could start by using smaller fire trucks. Narrowing roads will be hard to do when trucks like these need to use them. https://media.kare11.com/assets/KARE/images/14fc6406-3654-4c1f-b5ec-8c1fb8b0709b/14fc6406-3654-4c1f-b5ec-8c1fb8b0709b_1920x10...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT

But seriously, is there no plan to make a direct trail connection here? It's all county owned and would be a great connection for residents and park users. https://i.imgur.com/h7KhacC.png https://i.imgur.com/TPeNunO.png Isn't that ridge kinda steep? I don't think stairs would be ADA compliant and a...

The Luminary Loppet was a parking nightmare. The stations near the lakes will help for events like that.

Re: Transit Crime

Are they doing 2-Car trains? Didn't they resort to those at one point to help with crime? I must say the headlines look bad and discourage ridership. If people don't want help, Ambassadors, or whomever aren't going to help. I like the idea of having some sort of specialist embedded with the transit ...

I understand why they are placing this on East Bank, but It would be nice if they put it on West Bank just north of Mondale Hall and take out the parking lot and softball fields. Maybe even take out the West Bank Office Building or build where the ramp is. Also get rid of that office building on Was...

Re: Transit Crime

Is this a matter of insufficient laws on the books to charge these offenses, a lack of MTPD enforcement / resources, or both? I am guessing it's mostly enforcement and resources. Cities have used broken windows in the past. I know folks have talked about Social Workers and Mental Health Workers emb...
