Re: Prince

I've read potentially from pain killers, but perhaps a mix of things. We'll know more in a few weeks. I saw him at the old St. Paul Civic center on Christmas Eve 1984. I big loss for the music world and even more so to us in Minnesota. He never left us.

Re: Apartment Construction Boom (2011-??)

I'm guessing the recent discounts at LPM ate their lunch. They were priced about the same for brand new unoccupied units with a better set of amenities in the common areas. Now that LPM has filled up I'm sure that will normalize a little bit, but from when I viewed units in Eitel they were a bit ru...

Re: Stress relief

I like the first one a lot... the middle one would be great if it wasn't for the carbuncle growing on the middle of it. Makes me want to pick it off like a scab.

Re: Introductions

Its easy to live here. Traffic is not as bad as most other bigger metros. You don't have to wait (usually) to use an ATM. We have about as much to offer (arts/culture/education/sports/recreation/entertainment) here as any metro in the country, except for the very biggest. There is a strong sense of ...

Re: Introductions

Hi all, Tom here. Just found this thread after a year of being a registered member. Before that, was a lurker here and at Minnescraper. I'm guessing I'm older than just about everyone here - I moved to Minnie from NY over 40 years ago to attend the U of M. I am market analyst in the multifamily indu...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

Agreed. The older part of the Dayton's building (it will always be Dayton's to me) is perhaps the most interesting building on the Mall. Along with two other older gems, the Young Quinlan Building and the Essex Building, this building brings some warmth and character to the street that is lacking in...

Re: Xcel Energy HQ - 401 Nicollet

I like this building a lot and am surprised at all the negative comments. Then again, no form of art elicits the range of reactions... good and bad... as does architecture. I like everything about this building. The red/beige color combo is warm, the large square windows are a nice break from a cont...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

Those warranties are important. I live in a boom era-condo that had insufficient windows and several construction defects. Ultimately everyone needed to buy new windows and the entire exterior of our building was replaced, since shoddy construction meant water was getting inside and rotting some of...

Re: Downtown East Project (Ryan Companies / Wells Fargo)

How did I miss that there's going to be retail in that building fronting the park? That makes me hate it a whole lot less. That's why I've never figured out the desire to put a restaurant IN the park itself - it seems like the first floor of this building should work. I can't tell, but is there ret...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

Different types of retail require different population sizes... the size of the trade area population for a convenience store is much less than for a full service grocery, for example.

Re: Mill City Quarter - (300 South 2nd Street)

The developer of the senior portion told me at the groundbreaking last week that they were supposed to start digging the next day... perhaps they've not closed on the financing yet, but I know they're close.

Groundbreaking for the senior portion scheduled for May 19... not sure about the workforce apartments Steve Minn is doing on the other part of the block, perhaps that is starting as well. Anyone know about that?

It will be interesting to see the impact of the new single-user buildings,...

Re: Stadium Parking Ramp Air Rights Development

I don't understand why the City doesn't go back out for RFPs on this site, since Ryan is clearly not going to deliver what they originally proposed - and what got them the development rights. Or maybe go back to Mortenson and ask them if they are still interested in the deal.

Re: Ceresota Building Apartments (155 5th Ave S)

A co-worker of mine went into this building this week and said the first floor seem really dark despite the mirrored wall and skylights (and it was a sunny day). Also, there does not seem to by much work going on and no place to get information on the new assisted living housing. Sounds like they mi...

Re: Stanton Condo Project - 121 12th Ave S

I think Stanton owns/controls many of his subs so he has more control over the quality of the work being done on his buildings and is confident they won't have an issue down the road. Plus, he will stand by his work... I believe I heard a quote from him once where he said " if there's a problem...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map

Looks like Stanton is not afraid of the 10-year warranty period like so many other developers. Their aversion to risk is leaving the entire market for new condos to him.
