Re: Orange Line (35W BRT)

There isn't any lane expansion. A new deck has to be built for the profile of the transit station. And it's a terrible idea to take a lane away at a major bottleneck. You're just moving bottlenecks around at that point. That's not how I understood things. "Jim Grube, engineer for Hennepin Coun...

Free to the public Los Angeles monorail in the 1960'

This blew me away. Wish they would have come to Minneapolis/St. Paul when L.A. turned them down (although the same thing probably would have happened sadly). Ray Bradbury was pissed.

Re: Twin Cities Underground Rail

Not sure Elevated will get used as much. Your best example to study would be Seattle that has been proposing extending their old monorail system further, but I don't believe that it has grained much traction. Chicago's el was build so that those dirty cars could get around the city also. Chicagoian...

Re: Transit Crime

This isn't transit crime, but there's a new story from the Strib about car break-ins, and the implication is that the crime is facilitated in some way by the Blue Line. http://www.startribune.com/local/minneapolis/233005661.html I got the crime alert in my email yesterday- since deleted, so I can't...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

I was out doorknocking for Lisa Bender tonight...and the Mayor of Eden Prairie answered the door at her daughter's place in Lowry Hill East. Hilarity ensued.

Well? Don't leave us hanging/
Still hanging. Think it safe to tell the story a few weeks post election now.

Re: 26th / 28th Streets in South Minneapolis

I take a earlier comment back. Bike lanes will be needed here because when the midtown lrv construction starts they are closing the bike trail. At least it will remind me how much I appreciate the Greenway

Re: Nicollet-Central Corridor

personally I'm confused why a number of you think subways and street cars are mutually exclusive. most major cities with good transit systems I've been to successfully have both, creating a diverse transit network. for example both Toronto and Oslo have simple but very practical subways, with a mor...

Re: Nicollet-Central Corridor

I don't think there will be any "real" tunnels for Minneapolis transit, unless things change dramatically in the next hundred years. I think the economics of subways for midsize cities of medium density, shaky even in the post war era, are completely politically unrealistic today. There j...

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT)

Especially if they are considering a cycle track on 28th. At least it will be (semi?) protected from 60 mph traffic transitioning to 30 mph traffic

Re: Nicollet-Central Corridor

Both would get the vehicle out of the weather and allow it to move without interference from peds, bicycles (Just talking about a Rte 6 ride stuck behind a bicycle on Hennepin, driver was late already and getting upset) auto and busses. A trolly or "BRT" will contend with all these things...

Re: Nicollet-Central Corridor

Ok. I'll bite.... Subway Subway Subway Subway Too much money. Elevated rail would have to be at least 60-80 feet high for it not to interfere with the skyways. My guess would make both options seem "cost effective". I havn't heard anyone talk about elevated rail for Nicolett [sic]. Anyway ...

Re: U.S. Highway 14

This is such a waste of money. Highway 14 does not have any traffic. The route from Owatonna to Mankato is dead. Highway 60 from Mankato to Faribault has more traffic. If you are driving south on I-35 and want to head east to Mankato you would take Hwy 60 from Faribault, you would not drive down to...

Re: U.S. Highway 14

I grew up on a farm just outside Owatonna (we took county road 48 in to town) so this brings back memories..I was in the last class of graduating "Indians" at the high school. Crazy how much that town has changed, although it seems the change has slowed down with the economy.

AANNYWAYYS, http://mplsbike.org/blog/posts/minneapolis-going-for-the-green-lane-project/ It looks like the nightmare freeways running through neighborhoods (26th and 28th Sts) will be getting protected bike lanes next year. It looks like the nightmare freeways running through neighborhoods (26th and 28th Sts)... OH, the HORROR. Any thoughts on how we're going to clear snow from these new protected bike lanes? Probably the way they clear snow the other paths in the city including the Greenway (which amazingly they are ...

Once Bicycles follow the law where Stop means stop..... Ahhh... the old come back when we talk about building new bicycle infrastructure.
