Re: Fiber Internet and TV Services, Cord Cutting
I'm curious why they decided to raise the rates $5 when it appears there's some competitive pressure on them. Looking at Comcast's promotional rates, it appears that they offer 25Mb for $30 and 100Mb for $40. Granted, that comes with a 1TB cap, but I don't think many people are reaching that yet (th...

Re: Star Tribune
I'm hopeful that I'll be able to get a decent renewal deal at the State Fair this year. They seem to have the best renewal deals there (and as a print-only customer I was able to sign up for a new digital subscription for $29.99 for the year, and they threw in a cooler bag as well.) I may drop the S...

Re: C Line - Arterial Rapid Bus & Penn Ave Community Works Project
I noticed they've also pushed the date for revenue service back to 2019. Not sure if this is new, but either way it's incredibly frustrating that we can't seem to build out an aBRT line every year or two. Hopefully the success of the A Line will push for more of these to be developed and funded ASAP.

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
The First Transit routes seem a lot more tightly scheduled than the Metro Transit routes, though. I'm not sure if that's just a fluke or if First Transit schedules more aggressively. (I'm not sure what influence Metro Transit has on them, or if the scheduling is contracted to First Transit along wit...

Doesn't the 30 have the same or better frequency than the 61 anyways?

Re: Sunday Liquor Sales and other Beer/Liquor Legislation
Do cities currently have the option to regulate liquor store hours beyond what state law permits already?
Either way, I think a full repeal (as long as cities have the option to regulate similar to other days of the week) is in order.

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
Is that real time? It doesn't look like real time to me (there's no variance in the spacing between the next three busses time wise, which I would expect if it was real time.)

Re: MSP Airport
The State has some super strict rules on any sort of kickback or something looking like a kickback for state employees. I remember going through a training way back in the day for a workstudy job and essentially anything with value is not allowed to be given to a state employee. My guess is that sta...

What happens with the funding for the Northstar Line operating expenses under such an agreement? Does that fall back onto mainly Anoka County or on the Met Council?

Re: MSP Airport
Honestly, I'd take an E175 that's been refurbished over a larger jet, at least with United's refurbishing. I did E170/175 ATL - DEN - YVR, and between two abreast seating and a bit more leg room with the refurbishing it was one of my most pleasant flights in economy.

Met Council looking at large deficit for transit service in 2017-2018 fiscal cycle: http://www.startribune.com/met-council-s-transit-operations-facing-big-deficit/406592626/ Looks like they're trying to push the legislature towards a 1/2 cent sales tax in the seven county metro and hold off a fare i...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
Is it OK to scan your Go-to card and continue to your seat if the person in front of you is still dumping his change in the fare box? I've always waited for that person to finish and move to his seat before scanning my card and getting the OK from the bus driver, but not sure that is necessary. I'v...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
I think so, and without having random fare inspections there really wouldn't be a way to regulate that. I'm not sure our bus network would be dense enough to support that, either.

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
Would there be a preference on when to do this? Right now my next weekend that would be free enough wouldn't be until mid-to-late January, which can often be the coldest parts of the year. Would it be better to pick a date in, say, late February or early March?

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
I know we discussed it this summer a bit, but would anyone be interested in doing a Northstar day trip this winter? I don't know if Big Lake would work the best if we wanted to have an actual destination at the end (there's no other public transit options and the walk to any retailer would be quite...

And San Diego has an 8% tax rate, per that Twitter post. I'm not buying the high taxes argument at all.

Re: Car Sharing / Rental (Car2Go, HourCar, etc.)
The taxes don't seem that high here at MSP. A bit higher but not drastically so. Denver seems to have higher taxes and they have Car2Go (and I think it's still going there as well.)
