Re: Star Tribune Blocks

Couldn't they have photo shopped the HKS stadium into their renderings? C'mon

Re: Star Tribune Blocks

To me, the closest building on the right looks office (20 stories?) and then two residential towers behind it (with lit up crowns- maybe 25 stories each?). That actually semi fits the numbers they were throwing around (2 residential, one office. about 450 residential units- 50 stories total adds up ...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks

wow I have to say it appears to be extremely ambitious at the least... I like the buildings on the right (understanding those are just conceptual designs of the new buildings) but wow this is a serious park

Re: Vikings Stadium

North facing windows (or in this case a roof) get much more sun than any other direction- turning the whole stadium into a greenhouse. They want shade to keep it from getting too much solar heat. Also all the body heat from the people already heat the building up. If they didn't shade it, they would...

This could be interesting- two law firms who each have over 100,000 SF in the IDS are looking at possible other locations. Article does not mention what their space needs are.

Re: Star Tribune Blocks

Is this release just going to be an aerial of a 4 block area showing the overall site plan? Im just wondering if we will be able to tell massing of the structures off of it too...

Also, anyone know when this "release" will happen?

Re: Vikings Stadium

The new stadium grows on me each time I look at the photos. Remember how massive this structure is- it is very difficult to blend this into the neighborhood. The beauty is in the "smaller" details. Like how they manipulate light and heat in the design to keep the snow off the roof. I love...

Re: Vikings Stadium

I'm trying not to but I really hate this roof. I guess too expensive to do all ETFE?
In homes, north facing rooms get more sun and keep rooms warmer. I would imagine they want to block that out so it doesn't get too hot and act like a $1bil greenhouse

Re: Vikings Stadium

my only worry is the half of the roof that is solid... will it just be a gigantic white thing? How will that look from the north?
As bad as the metrodome did from the south or east?
... or north or west :-)

Re: Vikings Stadium

The San Francisco 49ers just sold the naming rights to their new stadium to Levi's for $220 Mil over 20 years. However other relatively new stadiums are much less (Indianapolis- 6 mil/yr, Houston- 10 mil/yr, Arizona- 6 mil/yr). I would imagine this stadium would not command as high of a rate as SF. ...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks

450 units? That's about 100 more than the magellan project and almost 200 more than the squat 222 development. The residential component is going to be massive. Very exciting. Hopefully they don't opt for a 9 story full block cube and just stick a couple juliet balconies on it and call it good enoug...

http://www.kare11.com/news/article/1025194/391/Vikings-and-U-of-M-finalize-deal-to-use-TCF-stadium Looks like the Vikings will pay U of M $300k/game to use the TCF stadium. The article also mentions that a number of changes will need to be made to the stadium, unsure about who will be covering those...

Re: 317 Second Ave. S.

I know you are kidding about the crowd funding thing but I actually think that sites like kickstarter are fascinating and I'm really interested to see how it will develop. I could see it more in the civic side of things- helping raise funding for art installations, road works or even mass transit to...

Re: Vikings Stadium

I see there will be a football field in the middle -- very interesting indeed! Also, no upper deck? Is this going to look like a superfied Big House (Michigan) or Notre Dame? Whatever they build, and no matter how it looks, I hope it is damn LOUD! I would assume they have to have an upper deck at l...

Re: Super Talls

Here's the disconnect -- some people want a better city to live in and some people want a better-looking city to view from a distance. I appreciate the skyline as much as anyone. But the skyline is incidental to the way the city is built, It is not the purpose of building the city. Very aptly said....

Re: MSP Airport

My aunt used to fly for NorthWest and did the hong kong flight- at the time it was one of the 5 longest non-stop flights in the world. I always wondered if those flights were destined to fail because some people may prefer a layover somewhere just to break up the monotony of a 15+ hr flight

Re: Vikings Stadium

If it is covered in a semi translucent material I think it would be cool if they added lots of lighting effects (see the munich soccer stadium)
Edit: called Allianz Arena

Re: Vikings Stadium

So just doing so math here... and the west elevation is supposed to be around 290 ft- with the field about 50 ft below grade... any other stadiums have nearly 350 feet separating the playing surface and the roof line? That sounds absurd to me
