Re: Amazon's New HQ?

My gut instinct is that the subsidies matter, but not as much as people think. It's probably a tiebreaker, not a decision driver. Amazon made almost $48B of profit last year. This is a decades-long investment. A couple billion in one-time incentives is meaningful, but not going to make or break thei...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

I know these sorts of detailed plans take time, but it's a shame they couldn't have had that video ready to go when the wall was announced. Puts it in perspective very well.

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

well... I just started a group called "Friends of train transit" and I/we oppose not building a new bridge & not giving trails their own lane so.... I think you're being sarcastic, but it would be nice if we had more coordinated and vocal transit lobbying. The FMR have been very effec...

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

The Friends of the Mississippi River generally put up opposition to any new river crossings--even a bridge for the Midtown Greenway adjacent to the existing rail bridge got the axe. But they might get away with it here since nobody could conceivably argue this stretch is pristine.

Screenshot 2017-10-09 22.15.58.png Yea as shown above all the light blue is dedicated transitway So am I correct in looking at this map and reading that the shared ROW portion is actually the four-lane portion, and not the three-lane portion? Satellite images suggest everything north of Goodhue has...

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

I can't really speak to the other examples, but Montreal's Yellow Line is a pretty bad comparison. Montreal is an island in the St. Lawrence River, and that line terminates on the South Shore of the river. It may not be a long distance on the map, but it's a very long psychological distance, and ton...

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

I like the Red Line idea as well--it would make conceptual sense to have the three additive primary colors making up the main rail triangle, with the fancy feeder bus lines stretching out into the suburbs using complimentary colors.

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

The other benefit is simply that the historic Fort itself is not actually very accessible from the Fort Snelling P&R station. It's about a mile walk on roads without sidewalks. A link between the two makes good sense. Anyone have insight into what options we'll have if we build the thing in mixe...
