Re: RE: Re: STREETS MN Meet-Up?
Nope! All are welcome! There should be an annual picnic in either July or August on the blog side of streets.mn. I can link to details when those become available. That would be great! Do you have to be a streets mn blog writer to go? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus u...

Re: Metro Transit Service Improvement Plan 2014
Route 83-Extend to Rosedale Transit Center. This has been discussed in the urban bus route improvement thread, and this would make the route a lot more attractive to potential riders. I've only used this route twice; once just for fun from the Green Line going south to the terminus, and once recent...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
Can you buy them with cash from a bus operator as well? I honestly don't remember, though I know you could buy a 24-hour pass (at least historically) from a bus operator. (The A Line platforms do sell day passes.) I really wish that the GoTo cards would automatically cap at the price of a day pass (...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
Lol, these are basically all in the metro area to improve commute times. So much for greater MN getting 50% of the grants. It actually does meet the requirement, because Wright/Sherburne County (where the I-94 extra lanes and US-169 expressway conversion are) are considered greater Minnesota. Why d...

Re: Minneapolis Density and Population Growth (500k, etc)
I heard of some folks in less dense neighborhoods essentially stuck in their homes because they couldn’t get their car out and it was too far to walk anywhere. That would definitely have made this storm so much worse. OH, THE HORROR OF BEING STUCK IN MY COZY TOASTY HOUSE WHILE A GOD DAMNED BLIZZARD...

Re: Minnesota Transportation Funding (General)
There's a dumb proposal for a constitutional amendment that auto taxes (gas, etc.) can only be used for roads. Note that the gas tax and the sales tax on the purchase of vehicles is already dedicated to roads via the Constitution. This would be for auto repair and auto parts, which sounds like a me...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
Yeah, while it's kinda fun to ride on the Ford cutaways once in a while just for something different, I often can't ride on them for more than 15-20 minutes without feeling carsick. I've only really noticed this on the 225/227 when I get on in Roseville and do the full loop back to Rosedale, but it'...

Re: Soccer Stadium and Snelling-Midway Development
There's probably an exemption of some sort already for Big Top and/or Snelling Avenue Fine Wine across from CVS. Both of those are standard off-sale liquor places (except maybe in the eyes of the city?) and are about 400 feet apart. It's also pretty close to the church across from Spruce Tree, thoug...

Re: Gold Line BRT (Gateway Corridor)
It's interesting to see how the video uses the A Line as the "stock footage" for what the corridor may look like instead of the Red Line, since the Red Line was supposed to be "true" BRT and part of the METRO system, like the Gold Line will be, where the A Line is simply arterial...

Yeah, when there's essentially four movements being coordinated (terminating A > departing northbound Blue, terminating A > departing southbound Blue, arriving northbound Blue > originating A, and arriving southbound Blue > originating A) and with other connections that are just as valuable, if not ...

Re: Northern Lights Express
Route 16 was slightly reduced after the Green Line opened once Metro Transit saw how riders were getting around on University. If more people are choosing Northstar over the bus then reduce bus service. Route 16 wasn't "slightly reduced"; it was dramatically cut. The 50 was completely eli...

Re: Northern Lights Express
I don't think the distance to Northtown Mall is a selling point for the stop; it's still over two miles away from the station and there really isn't any major transit link. I wouldn't remove the current express buses, but it would give a capacity boost and could help justify adding some midday and e...

Re: Impound Lot
Also, it'd be a huge waste of resources to have every tow truck drive up to Fridley with every car they've towed out of Minneapolis. It makes much more sense to have the lot in the city somewhere sort of central (or two or more geographically dispersed throughout the city) so that tow trucks spend a...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor)
Not an expert, or even completely familiar with the way signal control usually works. My first thought is that 'holding' the light would impact the crosswalk countdowns. I'm sure this is a naive question, but why not full preemption everywhere? Full pre-emption would likely mess with some of the cr...

Re: Suburban Malls and Associated Retail News
I always thought the Best Buy Mobile stores were a bit odd. There's one at Har Mar with a standard Best Buy a half-mile away in the strip mall north of Rosedale. I never really understood what the thought was there; I'd think most people looking for a phone would go the extra half-mile to the full-s...

Re: REAL ID Compliance
The current biennium is through June 30, 2019, and they're also adding 5 trainers with that budget as well. That means that assuming they're hired on April 1, it's $88k per employee for 15 months, not 12. If they're completely new employees who need all new equipment, that's probably not too far off...

Re: MSP Airport
Living in Minneapolis, if you fly with any regularity it's hard to justify anything but Delta. If the regularity is for business (especially if there's a number of unique destinations) I'd agree. However, as someone who's mainly a leisure traveler (but does fly a few times a year) I rarely fly Delt...
