Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board
willing to put every citizens safety at risk just to try something they heard on a podcast or people on twitter accused the city of something. Wow is that some condescending, ill-informed, BS. Nezhad would give the state to the GOP in 2022. They said that about Ilhan. Turns out change is slow, if i...

I think you're just talking about following a different set of masters...Mayors need to lead on issues, not be a puppet.

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board
If those are the only 3 options, which do you pick in D.C. on the morning of January 6th? I think I go with Frey and Walz. Who am I? If I'm the president they're trying to keep in office, I'd be out there in the streets trying to calm them. If I'm the capital police chief, I'd have not had my head ...

You've got it all backwards. On the wedgelive podcast, Sheila talked about having hot food and bathrooms for protesters. If the cops kill someone, a mayor who gets out on the streets and says "man this shit sucks doesn't it?" and provides actual resources is far more likely to deflate ten...

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board
I think of January 6th and how a few thousand Trumpers were nearly able to topple the democratic process because the police were wholly ineffective. This is an interesting example, because what the capital police had to do on that day (and what they typically do), is much more a security function t...

Lisa Bender is the most powerful person in the city as Council President. I don't live in her Ward...I can't vote her out if she were running for re-election. Seems like our current system is quite undemocratic. The Charter Commission is the Judicial Branch of the Government and is doing it's prope...

It should got at: 501 Royalston Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55405 There will be a new LRT station there, it's near the Target Field Station, the C line and there is space nearby for the new owners to help finance some nice things like housing w/affordable units and a new Farmers Market and some sort of pa...

Abolitionists may well argue that, but so what? They need a majority of the city council to agree with them. Even if a court decides that the council needs to explicitly find the police necessary, they will.

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board
I’m undecided, and it’s going to be a game time decision, likely. Honest question, though, why is the ‘if necessary’ language about having police officers in the amendment at all? Especially if, as literally every supporter tries to assure me, there definitively WILL be police officers? I mean, it ...

You really should not make decisions on the charter based on the current occupants of certain offices, some of whom may well be gone before any meaningful change happens.

What are you really confused about on the ballot question? We've had a tremendously effect "flood the zone with lies" strategy from the anti-side that people pretend like there's something confusing about what is really quite straight-forward. Do you honestly foresee a mayor and council ma...

I think we can already say that.Prediction: in 20 years we will look back on the dramatic work from home shift that occurred in 2020-2022 as being largely a white privilege movement that had huge negative impacts on marginalized urban communities of color.

Could move the houses displaced by widening Crosstown to the vacant Cedar land. As I never use Cedar north of Crosstown. I don't have an opinion on the matter, but what would the residents and businesses think about losing easy access to and from the south? I have several neighbors who would gladly...

One factor I think thats at play is the on going rebuilds of place burned down in the riots has impacted the construction labor and material market demand. Is there a lot of rebuilding going on? On the south side, it's just the under-construction apartments, Wendy's, AutoZone, Arby's/Raising Cane's...

It really is amazing how some people see the idling police car as threatening, and some see it as reassuring. Is it amazing? It's a major lesson of the last few years. Police presence is both. But I'm 100% with Alex. It shouldn't be a on the sidewalk and it shouldn't be idling. Seems like exactly w...

Re: George Floyd murder and aftermath
In the past year, one of the things that I have become most certain of is that a lot of the practices that are engrained in policing are not effective. High speed chases seem to be firmly in this category. Worse, we don't even have a common understanding of what effective means or a common mental m...
