Re: Nic on Fifth - (290' - 26 Stories)

The views from this monstrosity are amazing, especially because you can't see Nic on Fifth. Their marketing team needs to push that as a selling point!

Re: The Eclipse

I can't say I'm a fan of a hulking, featureless black box towering over Hennepin, but the the design could be vastly improved with the addition of a crown, or some sort of accent or feature at the top of the building to soften the severity. Lack of detail makes this look cheap, à la Hotel Ivy or Nic...

Re: Mozaic

Hmm. In the newest rendering posted by twincitizen, all of the great little architectural details (like the glass setbacks/overhangs) and some of the interesting angles are gone. Also, what happened to the glass cube with the transparent image mesh? :( The transformation from unique and quirky landm...

Re: Millienials moving into luxury apartments

Do you know what will hurt the financial health of our generation? Try a trillion dollars of outstanding student loans, easy credit with mafioso level interest rates, stagnant real wages, rising economic inequality, runaway healthcare costs, one half of one percent return on cash investments, a Wal...

Re: Northstar

Got it. I will admit central-city blinders and say I had no idea that was going on. haha Jennifat, do you think the ridership will remain up? That's hard to say, but if congestion continues to get increasingly worse (as it undoubtedly will), I think a lot more people in the area are going to see no...

Re: Northstar

The extreme gridlock on Highway 10 from Ramsey to Coon Rapids (due to the closure of Bunker Lake Blvd, closure of Highway 47, and reduced traffic to one lane on 10 for resurfacing) has definitely had a lot to do with the increased ridership for August.

Re: Vikings Stadium

Oh my god. I finally realized what it reminds me of: it's an enormous Target Center with windows. It has the same hulking, hostile, fortress-like presence. I'm so disappointed we're building this monstrosity in what's generally regarded as a design-savvy city. I was hoping for iconic and avant-garde...

Re: Vikings Stadium

I am...utterly dumbfounded.

This is heinous. I'm truly shocked by how horrendously cheap this looks. $1 Billion for this 3rd-grade science project!? Unbelievable. :(

But it is sort of Minnesota in that it definitely has a certain quality about it. Perhaps understated,” she said.
Referring to the design quality as "understated" has me a bit worried...

Re: Northstar

There is NOTHING on the other side of that Ramsey Station!!! I know there is that planned TOD station development on the other side, but WOW is that area sparse! I realize transit planners need to sell the idea of TOD as part of the ROI, but I think that plan backfires on you when you place a passe...

Re: Vikings Stadium

The Journal has obtained "schematic" images from HKS's original bid. Only one of the pictures is showing up for me, but it certainly is different. http://journalmpls.wordpress.com/2012/09/28/journal-obtains-stadium-schematic-images/ Just took a look at these. So far...not bad! The second ...

Re: Vikings Stadium

The architects sound like they sincerely took feedback from the public in both designing the Lucas and Dallas stadiums. That is a positive because they don't have any particular aesthetic "formula" which they will impose on the community. I also think their recent experience with designin...

Re: Vikings Stadium

Is it just me, or did it seem to anyone else like this open house presentation at the Dome was a colossal waste of time? We already knew who the competing firms were. Couldn't those interested...simply go to each of the candidates' websites to view their portfolios? It sounds like many of the people...

Re: Vikings Stadium

For what it's worth, this morning Sid Hartman speculated the HKS, designer of Cowboys Stadium and Lucas Oil Stadium, is the favorite. Sid is well connected but I'm not sure if he's a good prognosticator. We'll see what happens. Ugh, I really hope that's not the case. I just took a look at their sta...
