Re: Minneapolis City Politics General Discussion
Frey was absolutely going to veto this, and the council definitely didn't have the votes to override, so it was dead either way.

Based off of the renderings, I'm pretty confident that TAB is right.

Note also that the Border Avenue extension to Glenwood is located right next to this project. If that's still a thing?

$976 million budget for 28000 students? If my calculator is to be believed then they are spending 34,857 per student. I have no idea what the typical student costs but that strikes me as a bit high (especially so given student performance in MPS). Not sure how that jibes with this quote from the ar...

Re: MSP Airport / Metropolitan Airports Commission
I looked it up because I was curious, and I was honestly really surprised how few flights were happening at St. Paul -- around 40k per year, which is about 1/3 of what's happening at Flying Cloud. That said, I think that the nature of the flights out of St. Paul is a different mix than the other rel...

Re: MSP Airport / Metropolitan Airports Commission
I think that the St. Cloud airport is just a little too far out. They've tried for years to market it as an option for people living in the Northwest suburbs, but it's never caught on. Paine Field near Seattle is trying to develop itself as a back up airport option with some success, but it's much c...

Hard to believe that was the outcome, when the teacher's union was negotiating against a board made up of stern capitalist pencil pushers... [checks notes] endorsed by the teacher's union.

I feel like I've heard talk about FIS moving to the third level near the existing location, so that might be the plan. I also understand that both of the existing trams are approaching the end of their lifecycle, so there may be more ambitious plans for those when they get replaced. With the extensi...

They're no longer proposing the taxiway connector at the southeast end of the parallel runways -- that's a change that could have eliminated a lot of taxiing the long way around the terminal and simplified ground operations significantly.

I'm fine with automated enforcement, but do we really think that the people who are blowing through stoplights in cars with expired tabs are going to bother paying a fine they get in the mail?

Have they decided where the maintenance facility for this will end up? If I recall, Sandstone, MN was lobbying hard for that, but a location at either end would seem to make more sense.
Also, wasn't there a desire for layover yards past Target Field Station that were contemplated at some point?

It's a natural result of designing a road such that nothing can move faster than the slowest bus using it.

More people, but still a fraction of potential voters. In a one party town with RCV, there's just no reason to let a few hundred people (who are likely not representative of the overall electorate) try to dictate who appears on the ballot.

I won't be able to find the article now, but I read the other reason that they're tearing it down is that it wasn't a typical office layout that would be easily leasable. It was designed for some specific type of production work that technology has since made obsolete.
Still a waste.

I'd really hope that at least the central historic portion of the Honeywell building is retained -- it's a very handsome building, it's a reminder of the history of Honeywell's development in Minneapolis, and it appears to have nice narrow floor plates (if you scrape off some of the additions to the...

Remember that diesel trains running mostly empty is expensive and bad for the environment. This isn't like increasing bus frequency on a Metro Transit route, where higher frequencies will easily unlock significant increases in ridership.
