If streets.mn had a year-end award for best vacant lot with potential, I feel like this would take the cake on most ballots.

In other news... Mesa Pizza is expanding into stadium village. They are opening shop next to the Burger King in that mini strip mall between Washington and University. The last thing that was here was Leo's Burritos, a very short lived joint that had burritos better than chipotle but service slower ...

Looks like they tore down the house today. Hopefully this means we will start seeing some work on this project soon.

(yo)gurt[lab] (aka Yogurt Lab) will open in The Walkway: http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/news/2013/12/09/yogurt-labs-expansion-reaches-new.html Beat me to the punch! Anyways, the one in the Edge on Oak in Stadium Village is also very good. Both this place and Chilly Billy's in Dinkytown seem ...

Anybody know any updates for this? Hennepin County closed the project website earlier today as I was trying to access the Alliant report and proposed layouts.

Re: University District Alliance reviewing parking minimums
Excellent news! Less parking for new development is exactly what this could-be walking paradise needs. I interviewed Kelly Doran back in September and he said that although his newer projects like The Knoll have parking filled, he was able to get a variance to lower the space per unit to about 0.33/...

Re: The Marshall - (515 14th Avenue Southeast)
Interesting post from somebody on The Marshall FB page. She said that she was very disappointed a bid for a grocery store fell through, and that she hopes there will not be a Walgreens. If this ends up being the case, I would be extremely disappointed. A grocery store in this site is exactly what th...

Re: Frey Mansion Apartments
The only problem I have with this project is the added parking lot between the two homes. It will likely end up taking out a couple large, established trees. Another project woe based on parking minimum requirements... Still though, really happy to see these will be renewed. Both are really cool hou...

Re: Buzza Lofts of Uptown
I dont think this was the block to build a large structure, and I am glad to see it will be something other than a very underutilized parking lot... but when does the city get tired of the 6-story uniformity? It would sure be nice to see somebody develop ANYTHING with 8+ stories in this area to matc...

Much of the U of M student body is part of a Facebook page called "Overheard at U of M", which is mostly to post funny overheard quotes around campus. With the recent crime increase, more people have been posting about a crime watch program. Somebody just posted this to the page, and befor...

Re: The Marshall - (515 14th Avenue Southeast)
Meh. The Marshall HS building could have definitely been saved, but density is better when it contains the amenities and businesses that this will host. I consider this like a modern dorm more than anything - if you look at the footprint, its actually comprable to something you would see in the Supe...

I know the Marcy Holmes Neighborhood Association wanted Doran to build something significant in this parcel. They probably didn't have huge influence... plus I like to pretend that he just wanted to trump FloCo somehow.

Initial reaction: 1 and a half thumbs up. I like the sleek design, the street front is obviously much improved, and it should pair up with the Target Center renovations well. I would like to see what the actual practice facility will look like and where it will be (probably fairly utilitarian; after...

Re: Uptown Development Map and General Discussion
I'll take suggestions now for updating the map at the top of this thread. I'm going to mark a bunch of things as complete, including those that are nearly complete (Track 29, 2700 Hennepin, etc.) I don't think we have a single new proposal to add to the map, and I haven't touched it in months... Pe...

Looks like St. Paul just grabbed one area of bragging rights - most hipster ZIP code. Hipsterdom died in Minneapolis like, last month anyways.

Re: Corner Apartments - (2nd St NE and 1st Ave NE)
I like this project simply for the clever usage of the parking garage next to it. Yes, I understand the whole 6-story thing, generic and repetitive, etc, but it is a good example of how developments can fit on smaller lots when building an expensive two-story underground parking ramp is not required.
