Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
As much as I want to boost Payne Avenue and think it's the only real walkable neighborhood on the East Side, I think its only rail option would have to be shared lane (i.e. streetcars). According to Reuben Collins, it's only about 45ft wide - too narrow for parking, bike lanes, and traffic lanes acc...

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
Induce conversion? It's already in the process of converting. You should drive by and see what they've done. Or ride by, if it's not too far.

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
From what I recall, there's really not a whole lot along East 7th between Arcade and White Bear. So aside from missing the East 7th/Arcade node, a routing along Hudson Rd isn't missing much plus is more direct. Those East End neighborhoods extend all the way down to 94, so you'd still be catching s...

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
That's interesting. For some reason, I've only heard the BRT option as on 35E and the city route as LRT. Maybe it's only my assumption that leads to this perception.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
prospect Pete - that's the Aguirre Connection that is on hold due to disputes with neighbors and an unsafe retaining wall on the way down. Just northeast of there is supposed to be a bicycle boulevard on Greenbrier. I and a couple other people are trying to figure out how to connect Greenbrier via W...

Re: Twin Cities Future Transit Map
The E 7th St aBRT will largely over the old 64 route, but go up Arcade instead of Payne. On the East Side, Payne is probably the most walkable urban environment and White Bear Ave is probably the longest active commercial stretch. Currently the 64 meanders a bit but offers to bring a lot of people t...

Re: Twin Cities Future Transit Map
The 61 bus is planned to be eliminated between DT and Maryland, being replaced by the "east 7th" aBRT.
Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but are you suggesting no bus service on Payne Ave? One of the most walkable business areas on the East Side?

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
Gosh, the suggested route of Kellogg, Mounds Blvd, and 7th would involve some sharp turns - particularly around Metro State. While I personally don't want it to go through Swede Hollow to preserve a wonderful East Side nature oasis, I DO want it to go by Payne Ave and Phalen Blvd. Going up Kellogg o...

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
Apparently there will be another walking tour, this time through Swede Hollow, on Saturday, Nov. 22 from 3:00 to 4:30 pm. The Friends of Swede Hollow have been circulating a petition to not even have this part of the Bruce Vento Trail studied, but they've been told repeatedly that it legally must be...

Re: Grid vs Bicycles ?
I have to say Xerxes in southwest Minneapolis is difficult where my in-laws live. They have no alley, so backing out of their driveway is really dangerous. All of the closed streets in the surrounding grid means that Xerxes is the only choice, but it's not a commercial strip with people stopping for...

Re: St. Paul Restaurant News
On the East Side, Tongue in Cheek is having a soft opening this weekend. I also contacted Patrick Larkin to ask about Schweitz Saloon, which was supposed to open last summer. There was a police notice on the door, but I noticed it had been ripped off. Patrick said he called the owner, who told me th...
