Re: Vikings Stadium
I think that's primarily the result of Brutalism being popular at a time when it was assumed that streets were no longer the domain of people. It's more a result of culture at the time rather than the specific architectural style, especially considering that examples of ALL architectural styles dur...

Re: Vikings Stadium
The Hospital is due for a MAJOR renovation though, so the exterior should become less of an issue in the future/near future. Not to drag us too far off topic, but I feel like we've been hearing about this major HCMC upgrade for years. Has anybody heard when this could happen, what the priorities ar...

Re: Vikings Stadium
^^ I don't think anybody here expects this stadium to spark a boom around the site. Nevertheless, shouldn't we still try to make this building as good a neighbor as possible? Someday soon, I expect downtown east to be growing almost as quickly as the North Loop for many of the same reasons that area...

Re: UTEC Student Housing - (1313 Fifth Street Southeast)
I can add that my worst work experience was in that building at a place called Marketline Research. Ugh... that place was a sweatshop! Or, maybe I wasn't cut out for over-the-phone research ... or both.

I think the Xcel building is going to be impressive in the flesh. The more I look at its rendering the more I like it.

Re: Green Line (Central)
That's (un)funny - I noticed the manhole placement, too. Back when I was a reporter, one of the city council members always brought this up whenever new construction was proposed. At the time I thought it was a bit over-the-top, but then I started paying attention and it's surprising how often this ...

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
K, tell me ('cause I'm in Cleveland for Christ sakes), does Minneapolis look like it's building a completely new city? It seems like you can't go 50 feet without bumping into more dirt, sticks or cranes! It is amazing how much is going on at once. The boom is most noticeable anywhere around campus ...

Re: Superior Plating site
But isn't that article referring to the previous, pre-recession plan? Either way, I would assume this site would be bigger than the standard six-story boxes.

Re: Superior Plating site
Good news today as there's finally some movement to redevelop this site! From http://www.thedolancompany.com/view.cfm?recID=793916: MINNEAPOLIS, MN -- Greystar, a large national player in apartment investment, development and management circles, is negotiating to invest in the former Superior Platin...

Re: Downtown Hotel News
I'm hoping that sometime fairly soon, some of these clubs (and the problems associated with some of them) are replaced with establishments that cater more to the North Loop crowd that's growing strong. Craft beer, ethnic food, ya know... That will be nice to see. Having more uses like this hotel, an...

I'm sorry I never made it here before it closed...
Thom Pham’s Wondrous Azian Kitchen in downtown Minneapolis has shut its doors, just the latest in a line of closures for the serial restaurateur.

Re: 612Brew
Now that Indeed is quickly becoming a staple of my life in NE, I'm very excited about this one. I look forward to clearer renderings that give a better sense of how prominent this building will appear at the Broadway-Central intersection. As it is now, it's a pretty low-looking building from Central...

Interesting. I suppose that makes sense, but I'm not at all in the know when it comes to rich vs. struggling churches. I was just down there on my bike. I've always kind of liked those stubby, glass mini towers.

Re: Westminster Church
A senior high-rise - is that the impression you got from the story? I find it strange that they were able to afford to purchase those, and plan to knock them down. I'll withhold judgment until I see the plan, but find this whole thing quite strange.

Too many cooks in the kitchen... It's not like they can hold a referendum on the options. This is representative gov't in action.

Re: 700 Central Ave. NE (former Archive condos)
I agree - once a few key parcels have been redeveloped in NE, the whole neighborhood should really take off. In fact, I'm working on a piece of my favorite yet-to-be-developed parcels there and will share a link when I'm done. I would love to see a mini master plan for the area around the Northrup K...
