Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
Short progress update: I haven't seen much happening yet, but the catenary wires between the in-use tracks and the out-of-service stub-end tracks have been disconnected. This project is slowly getting underway!

Re: Central Corridor LRT
I ran across this article today and had to post it. Although the Central Corridor project is not mentioned, I believe the fist and third blue & yellow train cars in the default opening photo are the new LRVs that will be shipped out here soon! So, here's a sneak peak: http://www.sacbee.com/2012/...

Re: Central Corridor LRT
ECtransplant said: I'm very disappointed that there won't be express trains, at least during peak hours, that will take you downtown to downtown in under 20 minutes. While I know that folks here have been disappointed with end-to-end travel times for the Green Line, I think its important to remember...

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
From the Star Tribune today: The Hennepin County Board on Tuesday tentatively approved a $79.3 million transit hub near the ballpark in Minneapolis' North Loop area, even though the project is still $22 million short in funding. On 5 to 1 votes, commissioners agreed to proceed with the Interchange p...

Re: Introductions
I might as well write a blurb too. My name is Philip, I'm originally from the northern suburbs, but I moved to Chicago to attend DePaul University and studied public policy and geography. I had a great time in Chicago and loved living in Lakeview - I was about 4 blocks from Wrigley Field and rode th...

Re: Southwest LRT
Le Sueur, I think that's a great question. I'll attempt to answer it, although I could see this question taking on its own separate thread. So, why is the issue of transit so divisive? 1. People automatically assume that subsidies are bad no matter what. Again, this is the default starting point. Ra...

Re: Hiawatha Line (Blue Line)
Just as an FYI to everyone who uses The Hiawatha/Blue Line, there are still three full weekend closures between Target Field and Franklin Ave scheduled for later this summer for track and signal work to connect to the Green Line. They will happen on between 6:30PM - 3:30AM from Friday through Monday...

Re: Welcome to UrbanMSP!
I too would like to thank Nick for his time, effort and energy dedicated to making this happen. I think this is a pretty unique site, and I'm very pleased to see people preserving it and carrying it forward.

Re: University of Minnesota
I hope you guys don't get mad at me, but I would like to play the role of pessimist/devil's advocate: I think all this development is unsustainable. I don't have figures for U of M salaries of regents, professors, staff, etc. However, I do have figures for US student loan debt from The Federal Gover...

Re: Saint Paul Union Depot
I haven't been able to take a tour of Union Depot, but it seems that based on Ramsey County's photostream on Flickr, rails are already being laid!
