Re: City Walk Uptown - (1312 West Lake Street)

Not sure this is the right thread for this. But the vacant Calhoun Square lot would be perfect for an office building. It has enough room for a good office floorplan. Has ample parking in the ramp, which is usually pretty empty during the day.

Re: Star Tribune Blocks

no. I'm not expecting... just dreaming. But... a bank did purchase the land. Banks do like to build towers. We'll just have to see. I am not sure that would be the case here. I think banks like to do that because they can put their name on the top for everyone to see and for advertising. Can't do t...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks

I work at the current WF Home Mortgage HQ, and we have a HUGE parking issue. We have had valet for 3 years now because there are not nearly enough parking spaces. And it is so bad now that we also rent spaces at Calhoun Square and have a shuttle running back and forth. I am sure parking is on their ...

That second pic, from up in the Library, shows that the height compared to the Fed building will be just fine. Hopefully a building between 10-20 stories will go on the vacant spot by Dolphin Staffing. If that park gets approved, you would think that would become a prime parcel.

Wasnt sure where else to post this. Article from the daily about some carpenters union protesting Doran for not using their union for Mill and Main. Seems like a poor move by the union. But I am not really sure how all those work.

Parking lot is all torn up. Old building is all torn down. They have the steel on site to pound into the ground for the exterior of the site. What are those called?

I have been around campus a lot lately with football and hockey games. It is amazing all the construction. Private and from the U. The new U dorm is huge, and it has been a lot of fun seeing all of these projects get built up.

Well, I believe Flux is priced at $1400 for a one bedroom. So it may be affordable for that specific location.

Re: The Bridges - (950 University Avenue SE)

One thing about most of the houses that you can rent. They may have more space, but they are a further walk to class, not nearly as nice and clean, and dont have the amenities. I loved the old POS house I lived in for 3 years in college. But I then lived in 1301 University the year after it was buil...

I went to the U for 5 years, and i think the only time I ever used the Gopher Way was during my campus tour. Does anyone actually use that? And green space is a good thing in a campus like this with such density. I am all for a little green.

One thing I do wish MPLS had more of, are old brownstones near the core, such as this area. I think they bring so much character to the area. One of the things I love about places like Chicago, and most east coast cities.

Re: Vikings Stadium

Mullen, do you have any evidence that the NCAA is moving away from domed stadiums? This just seems like a horrible idea on their part. Have an event that can sell 50k tickets in an arena that only holds 18k? I believe the Regionals and Final Fours will always try to be in large stadiums to maximize ...

Re: Dock Street Apartments - (333 Washington Avenue North)

Quick question. I assume whenever people say 94, they are referring to the trench that is the end of 394. So why is it called 94 when that is a completely different freeway? Or is my location way off on this and it is much further north.

Do we really think that the problem with downtown retail is that there aren't enough vacant retail spaces?
Agreed. Shouldnt we concentrate on filling all the current retail before adding more?

That's a big part of it, but SOMEPLACE has to be my least favorite, and Cowboy Slims is mine. But I also loathe country music, which doesn't help at all! Understandable. I guess I tolerate it more because I love country music and classic rock, which is what they play there. I am not one for the hip...

That is your opinion. I think they have great food, and it is for a good price. They also have great specials. Do I frequent there after 10? Usually not. But when I do, yes there are some douches, but no different than Uptown Tavern, Williams, or a number of other places. Slims can be a very fun pla...

Re: City Walk Uptown - (1312 West Lake Street)

I was at Cowbly Slim's the other day for lunch, and they mentioned they are closing the last weekend in September. One would assume construction would start sometime this fall. Wonderful news! The neighborhood groups should hold a celebration when that thing gets torn down! I have never understood ...
