Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT

Not great, but people (other than us nerds) are just going to forget about this again after a few days of criticism unless there's another delay or cost overrun that makes headlines. Also this isn't exactly new info, a substantial delay was already known, there just wasn't any specific timetable unt...

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board

Sad to see more of the competent progressives go down and the more grandstanding wing step in. My expectations for productivity during the next term are pretty low, hopefully they prove me wrong. My opinion is that Q2 ended up leading as a classic wedge issue, and a lot of people lost who didn't nec...

Re: Minneapolis City Planning Commission (meetings, agenda items, members, etc.)

I think the riots and continued unrest played a larger role than a lot of people are willing to admit, but that seems to have mostly settled down now (along with improving pandemic impacts), so the city is well-positioned to rebound.

The only market worse than the Twin Cities in May was San Francisco (among the 25 markets compared), not great.

You don't even have to look at the Frey slate here, depending on your point of view. There are viable progressive, non-tinfoil hat alternatives in each of these specific races.

Re: George Floyd murder and aftermath

... Just from afar, this decision seems to be another casualty of the unwillingness of either the Mayor or the local councilmembers to show personal leadership. Nobody seemed to want to be the owner of any decision or process. I'm also stunned that the Mayor continues to undervalue the importance o...

There are not enough legitimate candidates running for at-large. Who else is there (in addition to Tom Olsen) that could push out Forney/French? Severson in 2 also appears to have no challengers, ugh.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

Businesses like grocery stores are not going to abandon a customer base (downtown residents) that continues to grow. That would be like saying, "no we would prefer to make less money". I'm not too worried about the businesses that cater to the needs of residents.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

Looking for silver linings, at least this trend would allow the city to go very drastic with future street reconstruction projects downtown. If the office population isn't going to recover, then give the streets back to non-motorized users.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

I don't love it, but I prefer it to working in my office. Suburban cubicle farms can be really oppressive environments to work in. My options for an outdoor break were basically a parking lot or a glorified road frontage. During winter weekdays, the only realistic opportunity to be outside in daylig...

Maybe hydro power reasons? (I can't think of any other reason to maintain the intermediate pool other than just inertia) I also think it would be much better left as rapids, it was really cool to experience. It added a few acres of free new park space below the bridge.
