Re: What will it take to develop DTE?
nasa, I think the point is that suburbanites come into the city for amenities and entertainment they can't find in the suburbs, so there's no point in the city building suburban-style projects to attract suburbanites when the suburbs do a better job of that. They come there to work as well...and th...

Re: Dock Street Apartments
I'm confused. Is this a separate project from the 350 North Fifth Street thread? Yes. These are apartments on Washington. 350 N is a project with 2 commercial towers on 5th Street N much closer to Target Field. Both, however, would eat up space of the same massive parking lot. The rendering is conf...

Re: 222
To be sure, when dumberguy said 222 looks to be making great progress, was he not referring to the parking structure that has been in place all along? I went by this block on Sunday and don't remember seeing any significant above-ground structure outside of the parking ramp. I don't think so. The u...

Re: 222
I understand that the developer wouldn't be reusing a substantial portion of the parking ramp if it didn't make sense financially, but I still want to give kudos for this achievement in sustainability. Amid all the concerns about whether 222 is sufficiently attractive, I don't believe anyone has ye...

Interesting concept. I applaud the effort but wonder how much they will actually listen to the comments.

Re: 222
this one's going up really fast. I think both Whole Foods and the apartments will open well before the stated completion date of summer 2013. Also (caveat: I'm a layperson), it seems that there are concrete pillars being erected on top of the first two stories. So maybe this won't be stick-built. I...

Re: Vikings Stadium
I just don't see the point of giving up three blocks of tax revenues so a bunch of yahoos can drive their SUVs stocked with food and beer purchased out in the 'burbs into the center of the city to participate in "the fan experience", while Ziggy & Sons pocket the revenues for whatever...

In effect, yes, but not technically. Both pieces of news from Unity77 are not good. Not in a "the sky is falling" way but disappointing nevertheless.Hasn't McGladrey always been headquartered in Chicago.

Re: Vikings Stadium
If the numbers being discussed are correct let's hope they're referring to total acreage of a few semi-connected areas put together and not one big plaza. My Google maps guesstimate is around 4 acres per block in that area, which is about 3 horrifying blocks of emptiness.

Re: Park Vista (2nd St S & 11th Ave S)
Stanton obviously preferred Izzy's wouldn't be located in front of his building - he planned on using that space for landscaping the entrance to Park Vista. I for one am glad that (*hopefully*) won't be able to happen. Minneapolis needs density. Gold Medal Park provides plenty of greenspace for nea...

Re: 350 North Fifth Street
350 North Fifth Street would be a great project if built. I think the architects concept of a modern glassy design for the headquarters would look great here, and give the area some architectural diversity. They would be building on vacant land so no older buildings would be destroyed (which I'm op...

Re: Park Vista (2nd St S & 11th Ave S)
I think the rendering is interesting, and that the building would fit in well with what has been built around the Mill District. At least it isn't 6 floors of sticks, right? The rendering itself isn't very exciting but I think that's a function of how early-stage this is. I doubt Shamrock is going ...

That's awesome. Does anyone have any pictures?During the fireworks tonight, the lights on the top of the IDS Center were red, white and blue. Is that capability new? I'd never seen them anything but white before.

Re: Vikings Stadium
A grand skate plaza would for sure be well used on non game days. (note: go downtown on a Sunday, the only people using the public spaces and bringing life to the streets are skateboarders.) Not only would it be a regional draw if done properly, but it could easily host large national skateboard co...

Re: Brunsfield Place Apartments
I hope they don't build something that puts up blank walls toward the street. haha, seriously. I sure could go for something different though. Not to be a downer on this thread but that story is old news. I wonder why they're sitting on the parcel. Maybe they're waiting to see how many of these pro...

Re: 1368 LaSalle Ave development
They may still be a long way off from actual groundbreaking, but I sincerely doubt they would bring in concrete dividers simply to repave a parking lot.
