Re: Loveable Ugly Stuff

If you've ever parked in that ramp, you'd think differently! I drive a compact car and I cringe as I maneuver the the right corners and small spots!

Not disputing your premise, but I hate parking in that ramp! :)

Re: Mayoral Race

It's a silly attitude to just brush off a segment, a very LARGE segment of our society/culture.
Mitt Romney should have hired you as campaign strategist.

I like the green screen ATMs for that awesom Apple ][ beep they made with every 1960's vintage keypad strike.

Re: General Suburb News

Even stupider: in my experience the existing ramps on 49th 1/2 are never full. The one on the other side of 50th gets full, and that's probably because a lot of drive-in traffic doesn't even know 49th 1/2 is even really there as a part of the 50th and France node. Folks from the burbs drive in wonde...

Re: Introductions

My name is Erik and I currently rent in Linden Hills. Not a Nimby (Go Linden Corner!). You can find me belly up to the bar at Tilia quite frequently. Those strong beers are trouble. After one too many I stumble home and embarrass myself on the guitar and piano. Lived in Highland Park in St. Paul bef...

Re: Minneapolis - St. Paul Business News

It's only factual that business is leaving California. One company moving there does not change reality. From the NY Times: At least three recent academic studies have demonstrated that the number of people who move for tax reasons is negligible, even among the wealthy. “It’s very clear that, over ...

Re: Northstar

As long as we're a bit off topic on commute times, I'll add that I've always suspected this is an oft-ignored significant contributor to our nations' obesity problem. An hour commute vs. a 15 minute commute is an extra 16 days a year sitting on your butt (assuming you don't just go home and park on ...

Re: Saint Paul Retail News

The irritating thing about Olson's article is that he talks about the direcion and trajectory of Saint Paul. His article might have been true - 5-7 years ago. It's true that downtown Saint paul will likely never be a commercial and office center that rivals Minneapolis, but with the growth in Lowert...

Re: Downtown Restaurant News

The Bullfrog was absolutely awful, and dirty taps the one time I went. Completely forgettable. What did you dislike about it? That their food was like something you'd get in Atlanta? Or that it was unlike anything you can get in Minneapolis? Well, 'forgettable' isn't an adjective I'd generally use ...

Re: Mill City Quarter - (300 South 2nd Street)

My sentiments exactly. Can we at least see a rendering that's a bit less, um...."preliminary" before we start bashing this, please? Yeah, a little water color magic, some kids holding balloons in the foreground, and we'll all love this building. My personal favorite architectural detail i...

Yeah, I gotta think there's some politics at work here. He's not going to just throw $2MM away if it's not going to do any good. He would have given SWLRT $0 if that was the case.

Re: Northstar

Thank God that Hiawatha came on line before Northstar. Given the difficulty in driving ridership on this line, why not flip the whole thing on it's head: start off with FREE rides (or token fares of $1 or something) for an extended period of time (6 months or so) and then slowly ratchet them up. Obv...
