Or a commuter rail connection between SPUD and TFS.

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
We'd have to revise our ridership projections for pretty much every corridor under study. Bottineau and SWLRT are already above the 20k per day threshold for LRT. SWLRT can't be expedited much more than it is since funding is already pledged and the main constraint is engineering and construction at...

This has to be one of the worst articles from the Strib I've seen. Seriously, there's nothing new to report its just clickbait for transit haters. Just watch how many angry comments this gets.

I don't think its coincidence that Minneapolis started a streetcar study on west Broadway after the bottineau alignment was chosen. But damn, do I want to know what they are discussing behind closed doors!

Re: Encore - (935 Second Street South)
I just don't understand how some folks expect new construction downtown to include affordable housing. It seems like such an inefficient and expensive way to build out affordable housing, an idea rooted more in abstract concepts of equity and not as much in the real economic choices that would most...

#12 in the nation is a bit of a shocker considering Atlanta took the #8 spot. The article also gives a good explanation of the demographic shifts that are powering the walkable cities movement.

Yeah it will likely be net neutral from an employment standpoint. A few less top execs but more cash to hire employees. Who knows they could bring everyone here from Ireland. However, my main concern is how this will affect our rankings in terms of # of fortune 500 companies. Will they still count a...

http://www.startribune.com/local/south/262312521.html Some of the planned changes to southwest transit in preparation for the light rail. Express service to target north campus and all Vikings and UMN games. A high frequency circular is planned and more local routes to connect with the LRT. Pretty g...

Whew! thanks for the update, that gave me a scare. We should always remember that for all the things like stadiums, super-tall towers, local restaurants and light rail, it all comes undone without the high-paying office jobs that feed the system.

Re: Zip Rail to Rochester
I think there's just a little bit of overreaction here. Just looking at a map, Minneapolis was never going to be the first destination of this line. Looking back at plans from the past decade has usually shown this as heading to the airport, but I agree that SPUD should be prioritized. In the state ...

Yeah I was out in the middle of the day yesterday and saw a blue line train come into the station from the south, expecting it to go right through to the new platform. Nope, it stopped at the old platform. I couldn't see if it also stopped at the new platform two, sorry.

If SWLRT has taught us anything, its to take claims like this with a healthy dose of skepticism.
Also, somebody really needs to explain to the east metro planners what BRT is and isn't (ahem, Red Rock).

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
Slow end to end speed has to be the greatest threat to the success of this line. If they can't get these timing issues resolved then it doesn't bode well. I can't be the only one on this board using Central as a litmus test for running LRT through high density neighborhoods on its rout.

Doug Trumm posted another article on SWLRT (and transit planning on the whole) over at StreetsMN: https://streets.mn/2014/04/17/denseidea/ Wow, and I thought they were on a nice little streak. Nearly a whole week without a 3C post! I wonder how many comments this one will get? I'll take a stab and ...

Re: Twin Cities Future Transit Map
I going to guess that the greenway portion of the midtown corridor will be designated with a letter along the lines of an arterial corridor, just like the aBRT on Lake. If its all going in as one project and serving the same length I doubt MTC will designate the greenway as part of METRO, even if it...

I do think we should scrap the north tunnel to save the money. Part of me also wants to still scrap the 21st street station just as a big middle finger to Kenilworth. They don't deserve any benefits.

However, I wouldn't go bragging like centrals success is a slam dunk. Why not? You really think it won't be? I really don't know, that's the whole point. Central is just so different from Hiawatha that we can never be sure the same overwhelming success will be repeated. The circumstances and modeli...
