Re: Northside - General Topics

There are big H historic structures that fall into the historic landmarks category and little h historic structures that may be deemed historic resources. Some may not on the surface of things seem to be "historic," but there may be enough supporting facts to deem it a historic resource. 4...

You already have a low key bar in the area. It's Red Dragon. Just sit on the dining room side.

Re: Northside - General Topics

I wonder if W Broadway, aside from the strip mall style development, would have any chance at attaining a historically designated district. It's really the only large remaining collection of early century commercial buildings in Minneapolis. I think it could definitely fit into the Conservation Dis...

Re: Northside - General Topics

There doesn't seem to be any real avenue to do that without declaring the building a historic structure. I wish the preservationists in this city cared nearly as much about commercial structures like this and Totino's and laid off the Healy pipe for just a few minutes.

Re: 2316-2320 Colfax Apartments

Sorry, that's right, you did say that Nicole Curtis was involved in that apparent offer. But to be honest I still don't really believe it, because if there was a legitimate offer on the table, why isn't there actual proof? If someone wanted to save this house, why would they keep it a secret? Becau...

Re: 2316-2320 Colfax Apartments

Ugh, Nicole Curtis is now calling Mike Crow a slumlord, and is suddenly saying she's offered to buy the property multiple times. Are you sure she hasn't? I could completely believe she made an offer that Mr. Crow rejected. On a road trip right now, but Fishmanpet you are being disingenuous. I sent ...

Re: Bottineau Corridor (Blue Line Extension)

I've been and will continue to push the question of whether the route in conjunction with Penn aBRT and Broadway streetcar is the right use of funding at the Penn Avenue Community Works PIC meetings. I go back and forth on this current set of alignments, but what needs to be figured out is how the c...

Re: Transit Crime

Except the streetcars aren't going to be any faster than buses. They're more development projects than transit projects, with the exception of the midtown corridor No argument from me there. I didn't say that the city's consolation prizes were equal to good urban LRT. Washington-West Broadway stree...

Re: Transit Crime

I took the 19 from 27th and Penn to Brooklyn Center Transit Center on a regular basis for more than two years until late 2012. I never had an issue like the fight, but disturbances did happen. Going toward downtown, as I do from time to time, can be worse. I prefer biking to the rest off the city fo...

Re: North Loop Neighborhood

Probably not a contributing structure The owner of the Foundry is the daughter of the landlord. When I was photographing the shop last year I'm pretty sure she told me that it was protected by some historic status. I also can't believe that smokestack hasn't fallen. It seems like a safety issue at ...

Re: 2316-2320 Colfax Apartments

OK. Well the move would have cost $120K. I didn't know that number. I can't reveal the buyer unfortunately. Let's just say it didn't work out. I just wanted to post something from the other perspective. See if there was some middle ground. I'm guessing this is a lost cause at this point. Either the ...

Re: 2316-2320 Colfax Apartments

If someone wants to come forward with a plan to purchase this house and not demolish it, nobody is opposed to that. But nobody has come forward. We had a plan to move. We had a developer, a lot, neighborhood support for where it was going, the mover, the route planned - everything. The numbers were...

Re: 2316-2320 Colfax Apartments

Here's what my friend, Brian Finstad, had to say about this development. He said I could post this here. I think it will be enlightening to see what the other side is fighting for. I didn't know much of this before. I don't feel we're really apart. I think they have some false narratives they believ...

Re: Northside - General Topics

There aren't any recent permits pulled on 404 West Broadway , so that seems unlikely. http://apps.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/PIApp/InspectionPermitsRpt.aspx?pid=1502924230173 That's what I thought too. A friend talked to a Kemps employee today who said this weekend. I thought it seemed doubtful. I spoke ...

Re: Northside - General Topics

The IOOF building and it's neighboring old school White Castle were bought by Kemps recently. They plan to turn it into more parking for their trucks. A big fence would likely go right at the gateway to north. http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3811/13300477284_f5ddc68143_d.jpg It looks like they may be ...

Re: Satori (Broadway from Alrdrich-Emerson)

Really? There oftentimes seems to be a consensus that density trumps everything on the forum. The reality is often times more nuanced. Here are few examples of how I read the forums mood. Star Tribune: Majority in favor of demo (though a split on this one). No one was going to fight to save it. Col...

yeah this is pretty bad. it belongs on the north side of broadway where that crappy strip mall is now. But how much do you guys wanna bet that the "save dinkytown" crowd don't give 2 shits about the northside's historic buildings? It'll be an interesting test case for the whole "One ...
