Re: Downtown Office Market
To clarify the 20 and 100 Washington Square office buildings were designed by Minoru Yamasaki ( The architect for the WTC and original Lincoln Center in NYC). The 111 Washington Square was designed by BWBR of St Paul to mimic the Yamasaki buildings. I doubt they intend to tear down any of them , bu...

Re: Thresher Square
I'm with Anondson. The clear street/skyway connection in this building is a plus. And here's hoping this is a very preliminary sketch, because it's not exactly an aesthetic equal to the beautiful and beautifully detailed Thresher Square (I imagine it's the height it is because it's going to be yet a...

Thresher Square
A new mixed-use project from developer George Sherman, featuring apartments (filling a current parking lot and replacing a now-empty two story building) and a remake of the historic Thresher Square building into a hotel, with skyway connections (and prominent street-level access to the skyway) to th...

Three urban campuses with thriving commercial districts that I've visited in the past year are the University of Washington in Seattle, the University of California in Los Angeles and Northwestern University in Evanston.

Re: Dinkytown
"Saying no to a hotel in the heart of Dinkytown is saying yes to a long-term, positive growth vision for our thriving business district." Wow. This is the kind of commentary that gives preservationists a bad rap. How can rejecting a major investment can be described as "growth"? ...

Re: The Venue at Dinkytown - (14th Avenue SE & 5th Street SE
I agree, go4guy. The two-story section along 14th is an improvement over its predecessor, in both scale and materials (it's great to see so much richly tinted brick), and the setbacks on the rest of the project are thoughtfully placed. I'm not sure why this project raised such a stink, while the hid...

Re: The Eclipse
Perhaps the developer realizes that, while Hennepin-Washington is becoming a fairly dense and walkable urban neighborhood, the residents of this building live in the Twin Cities, which remains a car-dependent metro area. It seems unreasonable and unlikely to assume that those living in this building...
