Re: Daymark Uptown (Sons of Norway site) - 3014 Holmes Ave S
Mod note: moved some conversation over here from the Daymark (Sons of Norway) thread: It will be interesting to see what kind of retail is able to fill the main floor if any. The landscape has changed dramatically in Uptown. There are more people moving into overpriced apartments which leaves less ...

Re: Ayd Mill Road
I understand the money argument for closing it, especially in light of the city's finances. I think that, by itself, is enough justification. That said, I also don't think that closing it is going to do much to reduce car travel in the area. There are still other ways to drive in the area without it...

Re: Ayd Mill Road
I don't drive on Ayd Mill that much, but for when I do, I have trouble envisioning where transit would work well as an alternative, given the existing network. In those situations, I would most likely just exit/enter 35E at another location and take alternate local streets. I imagine most other peop...

Re: Lake & Nicollet Redevelopment (Kmart site)
Well, Kmart is about to close their distribution center south of Chicago, but they still have one near KC. As long as that one is open, it can supply a pretty wide-ranging area. I suppose they could also try co-locating a Kmart DC with a Sears DC if they had to.

Re: Eleven - 1111 West River Parkway - 41 stories / 550'
Is there anyway to confirm that people are buying these units to live in as opposed to money storage. While I don’t think this is necessarily that case, it’s still a concern in the back of my mind. Personally, I'm curious about how many are truly, 100% sold, as opposed to someone putting a deposit ...

Re: Southside - General Topics
If the part about BK not being able to touch the buildings due to the issue with the franchisee is true (as opposed to not trying to do anything), then that would seem to tilt the balance in their favor. The city is making the right call by letting this one go. These wouldn't have even been affected...

It's all the angles. For a living room, they are not as big a deal, but it makes it harder to fit a bed in a bedroom and still have much space left over. I also don't get the double sinks in the bathrooms.

Re: LynLake Municipal Lot Redevelopment
If private property owners need parking, let them provide it. Why does the city need to have anything to do with it? Because the city has a vested interest in keeping its cultural and artistic institutions viable, as they help make Minneapolis what it is. Something like the Jungle is going to have ...

Re: Apartment Construction Boom (2011-??)
I looked at Dakota County's numbers, and multifamily housing starts exceeded SFH last year (by 144 units). That's the first time it's happened, at least as far back as the data goes.

I thought the labor shortage for restaurants was making the minimum wage a moot point anyway.

I'm not sure it would have been a great location for apartments either, though, NIMBYs aside. It seems to be one of those parcels of land that isn't particularly ideal for anything.

I've long been curious about the economics of dedicated 55+ housing. It seems like there is more of it around than there is demand for it, especially relative to market rate apartments, but I could be wrong on that.

I think that might be a better spot for it. Where it is now, it seems it would get a lot of business on game/concert days, but not many other times.

I'm not positive, but I thought Sephora was generally less expensive and carried a number of brands, while MAC just sells their own cosmetics. So right off the bat, it's going to be more attractive to a wider range of customers.
For that matter, Ulta would probably do well in Uptown.

Re: Northside - General Topics
True, the geographic situations are different. But if they're going to restrict drive-throughs, it shouldn't just be because they're in areas where people will complain about them. Allowing it on W. Broadway would make it look like a business is getting a pass to do what they want just because they'...

Re: Northeast and Southeast Minneapolis - General Topics
I think people do want them gone, even if they're not saying so in as many words, and that a lot of the frustration being expressed is disappointment that the parcel isn't being used for something that would make the neighborhood more attractive and boost property values. People got their hopes up. ...

Hopefully something can be done - the railroad seems to enjoy operating with zero consideration for their neighbors. It's also been there for 132 years, long before anyone possibly unhappy about it today has been alive. I understand not wanting to live next to a railyard, but it seems a bit late in...

It's more that many of their parks have the potential to draw guests from multiple metro regions (Cedar Point from all of Ohio's metros, Pittsburgh, and Detroit, Carowinds draws from all the metros in the Carolinas and Kentucky, King's Dominion from DC and Baltimore, etc.) and Valleyfair can only d...
