Re: General Discussion: Chanhassen - Chaska - Carver County

I take it at face value. What they want is more office space and more practice fields. They can always rent a nearby office building but I don't see any room for more football fields.

^^^Wait till some driver decides to challenge the speed limit in court rather than pay a speeding ticket. The mass conversion of Mn/DOT lights to LEDs is about to occur. One contract, covering primarily the south metro, was let this month, the next will be let early next month. The only high pressur...

Re: U.S. Highway 14

Some details on the US 14 River Bridge replacement at New Ulm: 1) The bridge will be rebuilt as a two-lane bridge. Traffic counts are only 8000 and not forecast to grow much in the 40 year planning horizon. Mn/DOT was OK with this if provisions are left for expanding it should the need arise in the ...

Re: North Loop Neighborhood

So can someone tell me what's "wrong" with it? I like it better than most of the "slap a dozen random finishes and a dozen different elevations" projects that we've seen so much of.

Re: 2015 Transportation Funding Proposals

$800 for Corridors of Commerce. Not sure I feel about that since it's entirely for popup projects that short-circuit statewide planning, but on the other hand some of these badly needed expansion projects wouldn't happen otherwise without doling them out like that to make local officials able to say...

Re: MSP Airport

It makes a lot of sense: 1) Southwest has been trying to expand to the Latin American market, which Sun Country services 2) Southwest has been looking for deals for good, used 737s to tide them over until the MAX 7 and MAX 8 come out so they don't have to buy current generation planes at new prices....

Re: 2015 Transportation Funding Proposals

Was County 21 ever proposed as a full freeway. The only proposals I've seen are an interchange at County 18 (dropped because the local businesses objected and an at grade intersection would work fine), and in downtown Prior Lake (apparently also dropped because of local businesses.) The interchange ...

Re: 2015 Transportation Funding Proposals

I dug up plans for County 17. Looks like the freeway would come by 2050. Maybe if we planned County 42 as a freeway starting in 1970 we might have at least some interchanges by now, instead of land use that makes interchanges effectively impossible. The long term plan is to eliminate private accesse...

Re: 2015 Transportation Funding Proposals

I did kind of wonder why they were so eager to build that half interchange with County 17 and 42. Probably learning from the mistake on County 42 where it's several decades to late to even think about building a freeway there.

Re: 2015 Transportation Funding Proposals

The County 17 Interchanges are a new one to me. If they want it to be the major north-south road my thought is that could be a principal arterial, and have the state take it and County 42 over in exchange for 282 and 13 in the area. The Chowen interchange is also the new one, all the plans I've seen...

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project

Points about the buttons: You need both an audible and tactile notification. Normally the speaker and vibrator are integrated into the button. I'm not aware of any products available where there is not a button, FWIW there is none on Mn/DOT's approved product list (even though I know Mpls uses their...

What about
1) Cut line back to Golden Triangle
2) In the future run line out to the major jobs + population concentration in downtown Chanhassen.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

As far as "where will people park" It looks like they plan to expand the structured parking at SW if they don't extend it to Mitchell, and build structured parking at Golden Triangle if Mitchell and Southwest aren't built. As a driver, whether I'd have to drive to Mitchell or to Golden Tri...

Re: Southdale Area Development - Edina

Originally they didn't want to include them with double left turn lanes or triple through lanes, but Mn/DOT is now including the capability in those situations. But Hennepin County is diverging into doing it's own thing with signals. They're still using painted poles, and have now adopted a streetli...

Re: Southdale Area Development - Edina

They wanted to do the project as cheap as possible- they moved existing traffic signals and maintained the existing signal phasing rather than replace them and add flashing yellow arrows. So not surprised street lighting wasn't added.
