Hey, I mean if this were North Korea, I wouldn't have to worry about the $2,100 medical bill I got today. Hey-oh!

Re: Xcel Energy HQ - (401 Nicollet Mall)
That's what I was gonna say...I dunno how I'd feel about taking out a $500,000 loan to open any kind of retail on ground level at 4th and Nicollet, except maybe a McDonald's or something. At this point I dare you to open a shop...good luck!

Re: Block E
Last time I was at the Block E theater was in January, and some lovely people were dragged out of the movie by cops. It was the middle of the day on a Sunday. Which by no means is a mandatory sober time for me either, but like many people with disposable income who theoretically like the idea of bei...

Re: Parking Ramp Retrofits
Yeah I'm pretty sure the Oak Street Ramp is supposed to come down in the less-than-distant future. That sucker is huge though, I wonder how they plan on replacing that parking.
Also, fun fact, I drove a city car out of the Gateway Ramp today. It's a maze in there...

Pretty sure their website is indicating they're working on a non-casino use for the building, but then again they also seem to misuse the word gentrification on the Block E page of the site so who knows.

Re: City Walk Uptown - (1312 West Lake Street)
I don't really have anything to say about Cowboy Slims, but I think the elephant in the room here is that these developments primarily attract well-off white people and businesses that cater to them. I'm not against these developments, per se, but an Uptown with an Apple Store and Victoria's Secret...

Re: Hines Office Project - (350 North Fifth Street)
Found it! Does anyone have any updates on this one lately? It's been almost a month and I haven't heard anything. Nick is a donor and works with them I guess, and was supposedly going to go to this tribute dinner in 2 weeks on September 5. Maybe that'll be the next time we hear back about this one ...

The Strib rendering looks like it might be skewed horizontally. I've never heard of guest suites like that before, I wonder if they need a lodging license or something?

Re: UTEC Student Housing - (1313 Fifth Street Southeast)
I guess I'm more disappointed about them not reopening the street than the actual appearance of the building. There are already large, multi-story buildings (Bierman, Marcy Park Apartments, that place over on like 8th Avenue Southeast & 7th Street Southeast) spread throughout the non-Dinkytown p...

This is on the August 27th CPC meeting agenda with recommended approval and some detailed site plans . This sucker is biiiiiiig...if it turns out badly it sure is gonna stick out on the edge of Dinkytown. Kinda like the Chateau but you'll be able to see it without looking up. They're not reopening 1...

The August 27th CPC meeting has a site plan for this with a rendering-ish of the project. Short. Randomly placed windows. Very blue.

Re: Izzy's Ice Cream Factory
Given Izzy's history of having unsuccessful locations they later decide to close. The two previous "attempts" were a small skyway location and a kiosk in Marshall Fields... two places with only 9-5 hours and completely seasonally dependent. Those were just bad decisions. They don't have p...

Re: Nicollet Residences - (455 Nicollet Mall)
John what are your views about the height reduction? On a similar note, I would appreciate if John would reflect on the use of cut-rate building materials - concrete board in particular. I will definitely continue to express my opinions as I see fit. I certainly try to respect the forum etiquette a...

Re: Nicollet Residences - (455 Nicollet Mall)
^There are an awful lot of expensive apartments being built. Its going to have very fierce competition. The watered down version of the original proposal makes this project underwhelming. This site has so much potential to be a landmark building for the city and its skyline given its prominent loca...
