Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
I feel like the buses could have been executed better on the Washington Ave Mall. Mainly that much larger and better designed bus shelters would be welcomed, and keeping the stop at Harvard St. I feel like the amenity zone is pretty useless, but perhaps it will be lively in the summer. I also questi...

Re: Public Transit News and Happenings
We are talking about a minor park and ride that abuts a freeway and a couple of car dealerships and is at least a 10 min walk from the General Mills HQ on a bus line that gets 1000 riders a day. Why would we want to spend fairly limited money on an obviously poor investment? Additionally if the buse...

Re: Public Transit News and Happenings
The General Mills Station would likely use the existing stop, where EB buses stop on the ramp, and westbound buses stop on the south frontage road. There wouldn't be much of a need for a pedestrian bridge, mainly because there is already a sidewalk along General Mills Bl. Are you saying the buses w...

Re: Park and Portland Avenues
Even north of Lake St, there isn't much going on on either Park or Portland. Best idea would be improving the Chicago and 4th Ave buses.

Re: Public Transit News and Happenings
To add my thoughts about the Highway Transitway Corridor Study, by line: I-394: Definitely a no-brainer. Would like to see this replace the 675 bus as soon as possible. Hwy 36: I have a feeling that this line could be a little more useful if it served the Maplewood Mall/St. John's Hospital area, and...

Re: Pentagon Park in Edina (Hwy 100 & Industrial Blvd)
Pentagon Park is seeking approval from the planning commission to change the redevelopment from a residential focused plan to a office focused plan. Most of the buildings would be 5 stories, closer to the interchange they would be 12. It also appears that the new plan would have a whopping 6,000 par...

Re: Public Transit News and Happenings
Some preliminary results from the Highway Transitway Corridor Study: http://www.metrocouncil.org/Council-Meetings/Committees/Transportation-Committee/2013/December-9,-2013/Highway-Transitway-Corridor-Study,-Info-Hiniker.aspx Highway BRT lines would generally have stops on the exit ramps, and the sto...

Re: Public Transit News and Happenings
I've noticed that Los Angeles and Seattle have survived with 1/4 mile stop spacing, as has basically every city in Asia/Europe/S America. Also with less stops, ridership at the remaining stops will be higher, which will further justify improvements such as bus shelters, timetables and maps, benches,...

Re: Public Transit News and Happenings
Pretty much any of the buses in the Hi-Frequency network are also part of the Hi-Stops network. Take a peak hour 5, 6, 10, 18, or 21 and you'll see what I mean.

Re: Metro Transit taking suggestions on how to improve signa
I have an iPhone app called "TCTransit" which is essentially the same as the "MyNexTrip" Android app or the MT NexTrip mobile site. The other ones are actually quite a bit worse, IMO (they are all trip planners, although some do show the locations of the buses on the maps). Googl...

Re: The Virginia Triangle (Hennepin & Lyndale Bottleneck)
There isn't too much money for this project to begin with. A land bridge is quite a bit more expensive than a roadway resurfacing.

Re: Twin Cities Underground Rail
I think that most realistically we will see a downtown tunnel; most of our light rail system is optimized for speed.
I would like to see an underground north-south line or two in Minneapolis. Likely using LRT technology for easy suburban expansion.

Re: 26th / 28th Streets in South Minneapolis
I think it will be slower, especially because there likely won't be enough room for protected lefts. With heavy traffic flowing in both directions and left turns taking place in a general lane there will definitely be much slower traffic, and I would think more accidents.

Re: Bloomington Central Station - Bloomington
The largest change in the plan is the residential portion. There will still be the same amount of units as previously proposed, however, they will be in two shorter buildings. The office proposal (six 8-10 story buildings) and the parking ramps remain the same. Renders and information here: http://w...

http://www.mnrides.org/sites/default/files/downloads/presentations_1.pdf The Nov. 2013 CTIB presentation has some information about the Bottineau LRT. Costs are $1 billion and ridership estimates are 27,000 per day. If all goes according to schedule, the line should enter preliminary engineering so...

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT)
There isn't any lane expansion. A new deck has to be built for the profile of the transit station.
And it's a terrible idea to take a lane away at a major bottleneck. You're just moving bottlenecks around at that point.

Re: Saint Paul Streetcars
I thought St. Paul was pursuing a study of the Riverview Corridor, while Ramsey County was studying the Rush Line. Perhaps, their ideal scenario is a LRT and a streetcar line? I think a line connecting from White Bear Lake to Fort Snelling could have a high benefit to cost ratio; perhaps such a comb...
