Re: The Commons - Downtown East Park

If you guys are serious about wanting to close Portland, I would recommend going straight to the source and emailing Jacob Frey, Betsy Hodges, Peter McLaughlin, and/or Marion Greene to get some political will behind the effort. It might be too late at this point, but I emailed Frey this morning aski...

Re: Huron and Essex Hotel

Where did you hear that they want to tear down Oak St ramp? From what I remember, part of the cost of the Ambulatory Care clinic was a diagonal skyway from the ramp to the clinic over the Essex/Ontario intersection. That'd be pretty cool though if they did... It's really kind of a blockade between t...

Re: Huron and Essex Hotel

Looks like the U of MN purchased the land that the hotel was going to be constructed on, and CPM is moving their hotel project across the street. On the photo caption, it says that CPM will sell the entire block to the U, whic is a pretty big deal. Locked article: http://finance-commerce.com/2015/01...

Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map

Has anyone noticed that all the trees in the median on 31st St between Hennepin and Calhoun have been chopped down? https://i.imgur.com/3cODOhil.jpg Why?! Those trees in the 31st median actually had to be cut down because they weren't healthy and unable to fully take root. The city (or park board, ...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

The Duval proposal eliminates vehicular traffic from 3rd Street? Nice. I'm game. But it seems to lack a street presence. It seems like there's an inverse relationship between "iconic" and "human scale" in these renderings so far. Take a look at the high-res image post from sever...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

^I was wondering where all that green space was coming from too. It seems they want to blend Cancer Survivor's Park, maybe part of their lot, plus the Powers(?) block across from the library into some park. Yep, it does look like they include that block. I don't know if that will fly but I like the...

Im a little surprised this thread is not exploding with more people jizzing at the thought of a 900' modern skyscraper actually being built in Minneapolis right now

Edit - just saw the Duvel post, I take back everything

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT) & Lake St Transit Access Project

So, in ten years, this region will likely have built: Central Corridor LRT SW LRT Orange Line BRT Red Line BRT Snelling aBRT Penn aBRT Chicago-Emerson/Fremont aBRT Nicollet-Central Streetcar Probably another aBRT at the end of 2019 That's pretty crazy. You forgot to mention a certain billion dollar...

2015 Minnesota State Rail Plan

MnDOT is currently working on the Statewide Rail Plan for 2015, and it should be complete in February. This plan is being completed in compliance with FRA guidelines and is an update to the 2010 plan. Most of the passenger rail corridors studied in 2010 are obviously still moving forward, but big ch...

Re: #Pointergate

Great points. The police union should be embarrassed at themselves if they were the ones who brought the picture to KSTPs attention. Something smells really fishy about the whole situation... if showing the "gang symbol" was going to be such a public threat and cause flare-ups in the stree...

#pointergate

If you are on Twitter, you have surely seen the #Pointergate uprising, spawning from a picture of MPLS Mayor Hodges and and GOTV canvasser Navell Gordon pointing at each other. The points were interpreted by Hubbard-owned KSTP as gang signs and they used a retired cop for a sensationalist quote. It ...

Re: Apartment Hunting General Discussion

Hey everyone, my roommates and I (either 3 or 5 of us) are hunting for apartments for next fall. We'll all be seniors at the U, so we're looking for cheap options in the area around the University. Of course, we're looking into all the advertised places, but I'm curious if anyone knows of anything ...

Re: Uptown Development Map and General Discussion

Lake Street from Lake Calhoun to Girard is currently undergoing a mill & overlay. Does anybody have information on this? It'd be great if they ended up adding at least a bike lane with all that ROW they have.

Re: Dinkytown

I don't know if this was ever posted, but there are now leading pedestrian intervals on most of the lights in Dinkytown. I think the light at 4th and 14th is the only one that doesn't have it yet. Its really nice getting ahead of cars if you are paying attention, but it'll take some time before peds...

Re: 29th Street Reconstruction Project

Meant to post this morning, but better late than never.

There is an open house tonight at the Walker Library in Uptown that will go over plans and ideas for 29th Street. I'm planning on going if I can get off work a tad early.

Where: Walker Library
When: 6:00pm - 7:00pm
Why: Because, urban stuff.

Re: The Graduate - (1300 block of 4th Ave SE)

I'm surprised nothing has surfaced about this project in the past month, considering the Daily article stated that plans would be released to the public in early July.

(This project should probably be its own thread now - I'm assuming the new plan won't be named after a 70's movie too)

Re: Days Inn Redevelopment (U of M)

I'm traveling around Europe this summer and haven't checked this site in a month (crazy, I know), and wasn't planning on typing anything... but, I felt very compelled to mention this subject since I was involved. First off, there were 6 total teams, 3 of which were chosen for the final presentation,...
