Re: 365 Nicollet - (Opus Ritz block)
I'm not saying Opus needed to build a new tallest or even anything to complete with the current big 3, I would just like something with ambition. If this was 40-45 stories with the same design I would feel 100% different about the project. I'm not a height for the sake of height guy, I'm a big, bold...

Re: 365 Nicollet - (Opus Ritz block)
I get the supply and demand part of it but can you find a parcel on a map of DT that is a logical place for a 30 plus story building. Nothing jumps out to me

Re: 365 Nicollet - (Opus Ritz block)
I know I said this already on this thread but I'm disappointed this thing hasn't died. Not because the architecture, which I like, not because the street level retail is underwhelming, although it is, but simply because this project lacks any grand vision or ambition. This is the single most develop...

Re: Hiawatha Avenue Grain Elevators & Freight Rail Corridor
It is really too bad that they cannot think of a better solution for this property. Yes it is a difficult site, but try and get creative. Icehouse/Vertical Endeavors was renovated from a brick structure that formerly stored blocks of ice from Cedar Lake. The Mill City Museum and offices came from t...

Re: Minnesota Transportation Funding (General)
I'm confused what new money could be used to expand LRT? Because the way I'm reading answer in basically zero. Then on top of that CBIT is now responsible for 100% of the operating cost of LRT with the same amount of money going forward.

Re: Fantasy maps
The Twin Cities express , appearing as part of Green on the map, is an express service between the downtowns and would be realized as either I-94 median rail or some kind of crazy beefing up of the Central corridor (think underpasses, CBTC, and more crossovers) that would permit an express service ...

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
Looking at the route I think it makes a ton of sense in a lot of different ways but there are a few things that leave me scratching my head. Is there really enough space for therm to make the 90 degree turn from Cedar to 6th? This seems like it would be super tight if it's even possible at all. I ca...

This is more of an LRT question but how long and how much would it take to convert the station from side platforms to a center platform?

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
I feel like this proposal is one or two changes away from being truly great. To me it lacks some grace as it comes towards the crown and spire. It just feels boxy compared to elegant. I would also like to see floors continue up towards the spire tapering compared to the current glass "crown&quo...

Re: Stadium Village 26-Story Tower (Harbor Bay Real Estate)
There is very little not to like about this building, I especially think the retail fronting University is great. One of the very small changes I would like to see a splash of color somewhere on the tower. It doesn't have to be a massive use or super in your face, just a slight splash of something. ...

Re: Fantasy maps
It would be interesting to see what extension would have greater ridership. If/when SW gets off the ground I wouldn't be surprised if there was enough interest by the counties/cities and other parties to get a basic ridership and cost study put together. I understand the appeal the going to DT Chask...

Re: Fantasy maps
I was looking at the SWLRT route the other day I realized that would be possible to create a "River South" extension across the Minnesota River and into Shakopee so I quickly drew out a potential route across the river ending at Canterbury Downs. The route basically spits off at Flying Clo...

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
How can we completely evaluate any route that enters downtown on East 7th (Options 2, 3, and 4) when we don't know how it will reach Union Depot, especially if LRT is the mode decided upon? The map clearly states routing and connection to UD are yet to be determined. To me it seems impossible to tru...

Re: U.S. Bank Stadium Construction Updates
BigIdeasGuy, Of course your “not going to get into a protracted argument,” you can’t win on the facts. My point is that there is very little beside irrational venomous dislike driving the dislike of the Wilfs and it oozes from this forum and its unseemly. Just so you know, as someone who actually i...

Re: U.S. Bank Stadium Construction Updates
I understand your point of view, largely that the city should be thankful for the Vikings are here and helped make DTE and the Commons possible, and that this is a rather minor request the city can do for the team which is a perfectly fine position to have. In fact part of me agrees with idea that ...

Re: U.S. Bank Stadium Construction Updates
Sorry, but this just strikes me as reflexive anti-Wilf complaining, particularly Grant's post. There's some merit behind the ceremonial vs. actual street name point, but we're still talking about a three-block stretch in which (as far as I can tell) the stadium is the only building affected. If we'...

Re: Target Center Renovation
It will never be anything but honestly. The worse part is we are going to be right back in this same position in another 10-15 years. I would've been cheaper to do it right this time then to cut corners left and right.Making a sow's ear out of a sow's ear.

Re: 365 Nicollet - (Opus Ritz block)
I hope this project dies not because of the parking podium but because of the complete and total lack of ambition. That said I like the architecture of the building it just needs to have a grander vision. I'm usually pretty optimistic about the future of DT MPLS but if the economics of a taller buil...

Do we actually know, right now, what exactly Abdul wants to change to the Armory exterior? It seems like the consensus idea is a loading dock of some sort but has that been confirmed?

If he is going for tax breaks, then his balls are tied to no additions to the building, no ifs, maybes, ands, or butts. He has been developing long enough to KNOW this part of the tax code. There is no playing dumb here, He is doing a calculated move that now has him exposed. Now he wants to say, I...
