Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
Removing the Olson name--especially to restore a colorless designation like "6th Ave N," which no one alive today remembers at all--seems unnecessarily polarizing for what is already going to be an enormous lift. There's still plenty of affection for Floyd Bjornstjerne Olson out there.

Would that block the wind at all? Doesn't seem to offer a lot of visibility for the trade-off.

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
Saying that the counties won these grants is not quite right. MnDOT applied for and won those grants, it's just that the projects are located within those counties. In fact the counties often have very little to do with MnDOT projects such as these, where the cities generally take the lead in partne...

My recollection is that MPHA is several hundred units below its Faircloth limit (6393).

Those are some pretty substantial property impacts. Either of those might be the most destructive public project in North since 94.

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
I don't think underserving Thomas is a huge deal. People manage in between Fremont and Penn without needing a bus route in the middle of it. If we have to make cuts. This is a good cut There is a world of difference between those two examples, most notably because there is no north/south service we...

Re: Nicollet-Lake Area - to Kmart...and beyond!
Reconnecting Nicollet will probably require a new bridge across the Greenway too, no? At minimum serious rehabilitation of the existing bridge will be required to meet basic standards, and I'd be surprised if it's in any less need of near-term replacement than every other bridge along there.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
Just biked the new alignment on 1st Ave S from 28th to 15th. It is now a 2-way bike avenue on the west side of the street. Painted line protection from 28th to Franklin, and then parked cars between you and traffic from Franklin to 15th. I like the arrangement much more than the skinny bike lane on...

Re: Target Center Renovation
"HERC isn't sustainable" is true in the sense that it creates a lot of emissions, but the real culprit here is how much garbage we create as a society which leaves few good alternatives to incineration. Landfills are worse on an emissions basis and they are certainly more directly environm...

Hard to keep elected officials when people camping on their boulevard and hurling insults at them and their children becomes an accepted practice.First, Bender's retiring, leaving defunders without a clear leader for the future (I really can't stand that Bender's retiring. Follow through.)

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Ridership on the 61 has been very middling at best. It was briefly scoped in Network Next for an ABRT route, but it fell to the wayside very quickly. I imagine good service on Como-Maryland will go further toward reducing some of the crosstown demand on the 61.

Aside from the district council boundaries, all of the neighborhood designations are pretty informal, and I don't think a lot of residents would be able to name them easily.

But don't worry, we've figured out everything that was right and wrong about previous top-down renewal projects and this time we're going to do it right.Funny, what's currently there was part of a similar 'coordinated plan' of the 1970s.

Re: B Line Lake St Rapid Bus, Midtown Rail Transit
Lake Street is not going to be reconstructed for this project. And with or without bike lanes on this section of Lake Street, not doing a 4-3 conversion locks you into a double-threat situation for crossing pedestrians. There's a good reason these four-lane undivided roads are disappearing throughou...

Re: B Line Lake St Rapid Bus, Midtown Rail Transit
What does that mean for the section between ~28th Avenue and the River, which under the “medium alternative” was slated to get a 4-3 conversion and bike lanes, and doesn’t really need full bus lanes due to low traffic congestion? I wondered this too. A four-lane road (even with two of them painted ...
