Re: Xcel Energy HQ - (401 Nicollet Mall)
RE: skyways (going back a few posts) The skyways themselves not the problem--the problem is that the retail moved up to the 2nd floor and therefore has limited access and limited hours. If retail had remained mostly concentrated on the ground level and the skyways were public infrastructure simply f...

Re: 700 Washington & Third Apartments/Hotel
Well good thing we aren't. 724 3rd St is ugly, was built in 1946, and should be torn down.
The Thresher Building (700 3rd St) was built in 1900 and will stay.

Re: Nice Ride Minnesota
On the subject of Nice Ride, they usually start rolling out the stations around April 1. That is going to be exceptionally difficult this year. I wonder if they may opt to wait an extra week or so to prevent damage to the stations and the bikes themselves. Despite the massive snowfalls of winter 201...

800 Washington Ave S (Guthrie Ramp liner parcel)
Mod note: Mortenson cancelled their plans for a Hyatt Centric here. The City issued a new RFP in summer 2018. Buried in the story about Sherman's latest DTE apartment/hotel project was a mention of the City-owned land at 800 Washington Ave S. This is the side of the Guthrie Ramp that faces Washingt...

Re: Uptown Projects Map
Added a few more parcels, notably Lund's, Acme Machine & Planned Parenthood, since those were mentioned as fantasy redevelopments in another thread on the forum. Is it fair to call the Acme Machine/Planned Parenthood site Moziac Phase 3, aka Mozaiiic?

I can't imagine it would be. This project is nothing compared to getting HSR between actual metropolitan areas. I'm starting to feel like the nasa35 of this topic.

Re: Gold Medal Plaza - (935 Second Street South)
Buried in the F&C story about Sherman's Old Spaghetti Factory adjacent apartment/hotel project , they had Sherman quoted as saying that they are continuing to market the site as office, but may very well end up doing for-sale condos "in another year" as it's "the last significant ...

Re: 600 Fifth Street - (600 Fifth Street North)
It's amazing how derelict this area was just a couple years ago: http://goo.gl/maps/4qqjz That Holiday Station is pretty new too...the site was vacant (or post-demo) in 2009 for that Street View image. I think it's very safe to say that this particular development would not be happening without the ...

I'm pretty sure I didn't dream this up, but I swear I saw a headline last night saying "Dayton says NLX unlikely" or something to that effect. Now I can't find anything.

Re: Walker Library
Getting back to the Library (sort of), I noticed last night that the crosswalk is closed on the west side of Hennepin at Lagoon, between the library site and Uptown Theater. That should alleviate some of the issues with the loss the of the 2nd turn lane, because cars can turn freely on a green light...

Re: Former Reserve Site - (324 First Street North)
Yeah it may not look like much, but we keep hearing that each space of underground parking costs $20,000. That has to count for something. For whatever reason, I really want to know why they can't or won't use what's there.

Re: Knollwood Mall - St. Louis Park
Seconded. I'd gladly head out to the burbs...but not to Applebee's or some other lame chain. If actual Spring weather ever comes around, it would be fun to bike out here on the SWLRT trail and do a Blake Road Station site visit. The TOD geeks among us can speculate our little heads off about what th...

Re: Surdyk's/US Bank/West Photo Block
I don't know guys, I probably would have sided with the neighborhood. It just doesn't make sense to build a 100% affordable project on a prime block that can probably support above average rents. I'd go so far as to say it doesn't make sense to build new affordable housing at all, with building cost...

Re: Nicollet-Central Corridor
We knew this was coming though, right? I thought it was pretty clear from recent Rybak sound bytes that this was their plan. If we pay for the streetcar through increased tax base from redevelopment, what happens when the neighborhoods say "NO" to the height and density needed to attain sa...

Surdyk's/US Bank/West Photo Block
http://goo.gl/maps/4lBK6 Block bound by Hennepin, 4th St, 1st Av, and University Av NE. The eastern half of the block is entirely US Bank, while the western half is split between popular liquor store Surdyk's and West Photo. The entire block is just a terribly inefficient use of prime land. Have the...

Re: Walker Library
I saw reports on Twitter last night of westbound Lake being backed up past Lyndale. Southbound Hennepin was supposedly at a standstill. As late as 6:30pm, Westbound 31st was pretty snarled as well, extending well beyond Lyndale to the Blaisdell-area. Was there a specific event yesterday that was mak...

Re: Ward 10
I just assumed "private contractor working in Afghanistan" means big bucks. I think that's a fair assumption, no? I mean, I wouldn't go there for less than $100k/year. Also, my definition of rich is very, very low.

There is another forum coming up, specifically focused on environmental issues. I'll edit a link in here later. Has anyone seen Nate Griggs' last couple Facebook statuses? This guy doesn't have a clue. He got rich off some contracting gig in Afghanistan and is entirely self-financing a campaign that...

Re: Mortenson Apartment Tower - (400 Marquette Avenue)
I must say, the back-to-back announcements of this tower and the Plymouth Bldg conversion made me even more disappointed by the cancellation of this: https://forum.streets.mn/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=444 Don't get me wrong, these projects are great and will breathe a ton of life into the northern en...
