Re: 2316-2320 Colfax Apartments

When I Googled T.P. Healy I found this hilarious blog. http://tphealy.blogspot.com/ It had many chuckles reading through the hysterics. Good find! Here's her entry on 2316-20 Colfax: http://tphealy.blogspot.com/2012/12/revoltin-developments-iii-density-and.html Also, @ Trilby Busch. Perfect n...

Re: 2316-2320 Colfax Apartments

Well their uncompelling argument is that old is good, new is bad, and the "correct" scale of the neighborhood is 2-story houses, not apartment buildings (despite actual reality). I'd love it if we had a program/fund in place that would help relocate actual historic-y structures in situatio...

Re: West 7th and Hwy 5

I see no reason why the Hwy 5 designation and thru traffic connection to the bridge shouldn't be switched from West 7th to Shepard Road. Shepard has a 50MPH speed limit and is built way over its current capacity. It is practically an interstate for the western stretch. The only thing that's missing ...

Re: 2316-2320 Colfax Apartments

Great design and this will fit right in with the neighborhood. I wish someone had the balls to say that at the LHENA meeting. Oh, the reactions would've been priceless! There was a guy at the last meeting who said he "felt like [he] landed on mars" because those two houses would be torn d...

Re: Selby and Snelling

This intersection is already quite active. You're right though, this development will make it even moreso. They have got to do more traffic calming on Snelling though. Some kind of marked ped crossing on Selby, mid-block between Snelling & Saratoga, would be nice too. With the addition of a groc...

Re: 628 University Ave SE

They're also really easy & basically free (aside from labor) to make using Sketchup. I did one for a class project last year and it was shockingly easy to create a simple building (or download one that someone else made) and place it in Google Earth with all of the existing 3D buildings that peo...

Bloomington Central Station & South Loop Development

I've been meaning to start a thread to talk about BCS and Bloomington's "South Loop" master plan for a while. Might as well put this here: http://www.ci.bloomington.mn.us/south_loop/south_loop.htm Bloomington has long held visions for developing this area, which is mostly surface parking l...

According to yesterday's F&C, this is slated for City Council approval on 3/5. They referred to it as "Arcata".

Love the 2nd photo "America!" Can someone Photoshop a bald eagle in there?

The Hiawatha to Blue Line transition will begin in May. No word if the route numbering will remain public or move to internal only.

Re: Uptown Projects Map

John, you should visit Nicollet & 26th. The spillover has happened. That intersection is surprisingly fully developed, save for the still vacant Azia space on the NW corner, but supposedly that is reopening "soon" with no involvement from Mr. Pham. I try not to over-romanticize the K-M...

Re: Uptown Projects Map

You're right, we do need a thread to talk about the local media. Look for that later, although I don't know if I have the ability to move Uptown posts to a non-Uptown sub-forum.

Re: Southdale Center - Edina

When I have a dull moment at work, I may look through Edina's Comp Plan to see if there is any reference whatsoever to recreating (or just creating?) a street grid between York and France (and in the Edina industrial area west of 100). One would hope that would be the case, but you never know... Als...

Re: Southdale Center - Edina

There might be a sidewalk in that rendering...I can't tell. I do believe the bus stop/retaining wall issue was brought up by the planning commission regarding the previous proposal. I hope they address it here. That Macy's Furniture Store building due south of here, also lacking a sidewalk along Fra...

Re: Apartment Boom

The really crazy part about the Strib comments being more intelligent than those on PiPress, etc is that those other local outlets use Facebook commenting (i.e. people's real identities). I am amazed by the crazy stuff that people will say, despite possibly giving out their last name, city of reside...

71 France & Byerly's - Edina

http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/blog/real_estate/2013/02/byerlys-edina-schafer-richardson-lund.html Big changes for the Byerly's plans. They have completely re-oriented the site and there will now potentially be 87 more housing units than previously announced, even though there will not be any...

Re: General Suburb News

I'm pretty sure that no one here would regard equating urban infill with greenfield McMansion development as "being fair". Given that this area is going to grow significantly over the next 20 years, whether we like it or not, I think it is imperative that Gateway Corridor BRT get built soo...

Re: Apartment Boom

Boom goes the dynamite: http://www.startribune.com/local/minneapolis/193169261.html Two immediate knee-jerk reactions: 1) The "Visit Brainerd" commercial before the video is adorable 2) Almost all the quotes in the article make me cringe. Did you watch the video? They interviewed a bunch ...

Re: Nicollet-Central Corridor

While I agree that a 2-way 26th Street bus route extended westward to Hennepin is a good idea in theory (see next paragraph), it would almost have to come from stealing the service hours by ending the 17 at Uptown Station. I mean, the 17 between downtown and Uptown Station is basically duplicative s...
