Re: George Floyd murder and aftermath
... Just from afar, this decision seems to be another casualty of the unwillingness of either the Mayor or the local councilmembers to show personal leadership. Nobody seemed to want to be the owner of any decision or process. I'm also stunned that the Mayor continues to undervalue the importance o...

Re: George Floyd murder and aftermath
Putting aside the question of whether or not this intersection should be reopened to traffic, the clear underlying problem here is that a lot of different people claim ownership or protectorship of George Floyd Square and they don't agree. At the same time, there doesn't seem to have been an effort ...

Re: George Floyd murder and aftermath
Zero chance that they build a station on the pavement where George Floyd died.
They will probably move the station further north or maybe move it to the south side of the intersection.

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT
Nothing surprising or wrong-seeming to me so far. Adding North Memorial is a no-brainer and they had clearly committed to it a while ago. Broadway is superior to Lowry, not just because it is more direct, but because it has more activity. The tougher decisions are still to come. Putting aside the gr...

Thanks for these. Really nice project. I do love how they've used the retail signage to screen the parking level.

Re: Minnetonka Area – General Topics
I go back and forth on this, because integration really matters, but it mainly matters in terms of public spaces and access to those spaces, like schools, parks, pools, transit, and so on. Actually having affordable units embedded in market rate buildings is good and should be encouraged, but not (I...

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project
Snelling is super unpleasant for a pedestrian, but it's where the greatest travel demand is and is likely to be in the future, and stopping there would make a METRO-to-METRO connection with the A Line.

Re: Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors
I wonder if we could see a shorter extension of the F Line, just down to Lake Street or so, rather than insisting that no transit improvements can happen for Nicollet until such time as we muster the political will and funding to build the whole ten miles down to the river in one go. Then, when we ...

Re: Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors
I would like to see the F Line extended down Nicollet concurrent with the reconnection of the street and also a new aBRT line down University NE/SE to Cleveland Ave in St. Paul and ending at the Ford Site. Number one, that would break off about five miles from the F Line, which would allow it to go ...

Re: North Loop Green - Hines - 350 N 5th St(?) - 35 stories - 393'/418'
Is this still going? All the city docs posted in the thread are to dead ends. The links are dead because the city did a big website overhaul recently and in the process they broke a ton of links. As to whether or not this project is dead, I don't know. Hines is not a fly-by-night developer. They've...

Re: Minnetonka Area – General Topics
I'm a broken record, and yes I know that this location essentially mandates driving for almost all trips, but my eye still twitched a bit when when I saw 530 parking spaces for 345-380 housing units, directly next to an LRT station. Development in places like this, as opposed to places with no trans...

Re: E Line Arterial BRT
Also the proposed stops at 2nd St NE and University & Central are way too close. Just stop once at Hennepin & University and be done with it! There's no chance of those ones changing, the guidelines for aBRT mandate that it stops at every intersection with a local buses. In a different case...

Re: E Line Arterial BRT
The number of stops near Dinkytown and the University seems excessive to me, but I also can understand the rationale behind each one. I think the weakest stop is probably the one outside Ridder Arena or the one at 11th St. The other two are obviously essential. In Southwest Mpls, the stops at Abbott...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market
I mean, the loss of Target employment alone wipes out all of the gains made downtown over the last several years. And most real estate decisions are tied to lease expirations, so if there's an impact, it's likely to be a slow rolling one. Not saying that downtown is doomed, but I think you're being...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market
The short-term trend is definitely going to be negative, there's no disputing that, it's already more or less established. The more interesting discussion is how deep the cutback will be and what the long-term trend will look like.

Re: Archive Apartments - 110 1st Street N
If the Fed were to allow a mural to be painted on that wall (make it Federal Reserve related, why not?) that might really create a nice bit of visual interest and spatial drama as someone moves through the passage. Unfortunately the Fed has seemed to be very uninterested in being a constructive neig...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
I skimmed it and didn't find anything extremely offensive, but I'm certainly suspicious of its motives. It's extremely focused on light rail. What problem is this trying to solve?

Plans for a mixed-use building at 1300 W Broadway (right at the start of the curve) called The Resolute have been submitted to the city. The city's application database says it would have 71 rental units and retail space for a barber shop, a day care, a bar, and a cafe. That could be pretty exciting.

Re: Minnesota Representation at the Federal Level
I can see no reason on the horizon why Minnesota’s growth rate would increase. With southern states growth rate double or triple of ours, I don’t see how both states won’t lose seats. I think a lot of the talk about "climate refugees" heading to Duluth or wherever is pretty overblown, but...
