Re: Peavey Plaza reconstruction project
Since this is now registered as historic, will there be any work done on the plaza? I'm a little confused.

Re: Mill & Main - (501 Main Street Southeast)
I can see some creases that would indicate it being assembled in slabs, but it wouldn't shock me either if it was laid individually.Yeah really, wow! Now that's "pre-fab" stone, right? IOW it's put together in slabs first, not stone by stone?

Re: Mortenson Apartment Tower - (400 Marquette Avenue)
If you say on average 2 people live in each of these 3,000 units, that's 6,000 new citizens downtown. That is a decent amount but it's not like they will be moving in tomorrow, it will take a few years. I'm just curious, is the goal to reach another 35,000 people downtown in 12 years feasible? I've...

Re: Downtown Office Market
I was thinking along the same lines. I wonder how the office space compares to newly renovated buildings?^^^^ Interesting that the 5th St Towers have a large amount of vacancy. Espcially since it is very close to the LRT stop.

Re: Downtown Office Market
Could someone explain that article to me as though you would to an idiot? Does this increase or decrease the chances of a new tower? In theory less chance for an office tower. If there was tremendous positive absorption of office space from quarter to quarter, it would indicate a demand in office s...

Re: UTEC Student Housing - (1313 Fifth Street Southeast)
A fair amount of materials from older buildings end up with architectural salvage companies. Any distinguishing elements (sculpted pieces, cornerstones, etc.) will probably be cut out and sold. There are a few companies in the Twin Cities that specialize in dealing with this kind of stuff. (You can...

Re: 301 Walnut (Sally's Building)
I would have bet money that this site would not have been developed in the near future! I'm glad I'm wrong. Additionally, I'm also glad Sally's is moving back into the ground floor. It will keep things familiar.

I tend to agree! My house in Dinkytown is paper thin. How well do these new student housing complexes hold up in regards to sound cancelation?

Re: Minneapolis - St. Paul Business News
Well....Businesses technically "are" leaving Minnesota, so sounds like the twisting of words. It's the same story here in MN. "Businesses are leaving for Wisconsin or the Dakotas, etc" is the right-wing drumbeat but there's no truth to it.

Re: University of Minnesota
I have a gripe with FM. When they did their big restructuring a few years ago (instead of having a custodian take care of everything in an area, they'd have a custodian do a single task for a much larger area, so instead of a custodian that vacuums and takes our trash out in our building, there's a...

Re: University of Minnesota
Dining services contracted out is an example.. the cost per meal for the average dining plan is much higher than one could do by themselves buying groceries I'm curious if you have some insight to some of the numbers inside the U. The price per meal would be higher if the work wasn't contracted out...

Agreed, very well said. But there still are layers within the University (Facilities Management in particular) that need to be cut.

Can I take a step back real quick and clarify something. Nobody knows what is actually going to be built here, right? Isn't this 10-story ramp simply a rumor? I think a few of the members have professional connections that are giving insight. But in the grand scheme of things, nobody knows anything...

Re: 621 15th Ave SE
I think McDonalds would be willing to give up their parking for a pretty penny. But they would NEVER give up the drive through, and the spots surrounding it. As for Dinkytown Wine and Spirits, that lot us surprisingly full most nights. I dont anticipate them selling anytime soon after the newly remo...
