Re: Mozaic
In order to "overlook" the Greenway, it would have to be on an upper floor. I think you're forgetting about a certain bus lane into Uptown Transit Center

Re: Mozaic
F-C story today: http://finance-commerce.com/2012/08/the-magic-of-mozaic/ It mentions that Phase 2 pre-leasing will begin when Phase 1 is 80% leased. Also says that it will have 2 floors of underground parking and is already being designed. I wonder what they have in store... Presumably more office ...

Re: Bennet West and Center Blocks
^Same deal over at Murals. I come down Garfield to access the stairs there to the Greenway, and I feel like I'm cutting through someone's yard. I feel like the developers go "yeah we'll do a public promenade" and then build it in such a way that feels private and cut off from the public re...

Re: Lake & Nicollet
As much as I don't support streetcars on Nicollet (rapid bus just makes more sense in every aspect, not the least of which is paying for it)...I have to believe that a streetcar line and the federal money behind it would get this street re-opened. I think we need to have a larger discussion about wh...

Re: Vikings Stadium
All this Stadium development could be used to preserve ROW for a double-level tunnel under 5th or 6th street.... Upper level for LRT and lower level for heavy rail connecting to the NP #9 bridge. Bummer we don't have infinite money and forward thinking. Infinite money would be nice. I would argue t...

Re: Introductions
Hey all, Matt here. I was a latecomer to the Minnescraper Forums, but I'm glad that our fledgling community found a new home. I will graduate soon with a B.A. in Urban Studies. I will probably go to the Humphrey School for a Masters in Urban Planning or Masters in Public Policy, beginning Fall 2013....

Howl at the Moon piano bar closes after just 7 months http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/blog/real_estate/2012/07/howl-at-the-moon-piano-bar-closes-in.html At the time, I figured that this place was opened with the assumption that Shout House would eventually get the pink slip from Block E. It wa...

Re: 600 5th Street North
Like I said, my observation has been that the smell is mostly from the trucks entering and exiting. Some of them are going to drive right by this apartment building on their route. And I agree, HERC isn't going anywhere, nor should it. The costs to build a new one would be prohibitive, and the locat...

1925 Colfax will be torn down to make room for parking.
Bummer to lose this duplex, but if the tradeoff is a lively successful corner at Franklin/Hennepin, that's still a win for the n'hood.

Re: Trader Joes (Lyndale and 27th)
Based on a quick Google maps measurement, you could squeeze a liquor store (Trader Joe's or otherwise) onto the southeast corner of the KMart parcel (NW corner of Lake & 1st Ave S) without violating the 2000' rule. If the denial of Trader Joe's on Lyndale somehow leads to it being part of a re-o...

Re: 600 5th Street North
Something no one's really talking about... It really smells like garbage over there, ALL DAY LONG. I work at Heywood Garage and walk to the Holiday for breakfasts, lunches, etc. The garbage smell from HERC carries pretty far down 6th Ave. Some co-workers and I were walking back from Corner Coffee an...

Re: Penn and American
So is that 8-story building all wood-frame construction? I was looking through the pictures of it going up, and it seems only the first floor and elevator columns were made of concrete. I don't know much about building materials, etc. I thought there was a 6-story limit for "stick" constru...

Apparently this is going in immediately south of the Homewood Suites hotel & east of Noodles. Interesting...I thought this project was actually one block further east, in the large vacant lots. Does anyone know what those vacant lots are planned for? That's a lot of prime real estate, adjacent t...

Re: Saints Lowertown Ballpark
Personally, I think a huge draw of the Saints was that they play outside. There was nothing more depressing than heading into the Metrodome on a beautiful evening. Now that Target Field exists, I'd like to hear how the Saints ticket sales have been trending the past 2.5 seasons. I'm not opposed to t...
