Re: the cross merge

Still unsure as to what the OP means by "cross merge?"

People need to GTFO of the passing lane, speed up before merging into general lane but also people need to stop driving so close to the car in front of them. It's unsafe and it contributes to the accordion effect.

Re: Cedar Ave - Nokomis Area

...Cedar Ave is vital to traveling(driving) north through SE Minneapolis. While this is certainly true, shouldn't it be more vital to driving *to* SE Minneapolis rather than *through*? Agree, I use it for both. I live there... I raised the issue of neighborhood naming in another thread. There's a s...

Re: Cedar Ave - Nokomis Area

I was talking about Cedar and not Lyndale. This thread I thought was supposed to be about Cedar. Yes get that Lyndale crap outta here :x ;) To be honest, the reason Cedar is so heavily used is that Hiawatha is out of the way/backtracking AND access to the neighborhood via I35 is restricted by limit...

Re: Standish-Ericsson

What about Hiawatha-Minnehaha neighborhood. Those two streets are parallel through the general area I think we are referring to. Maybe we should start a thread about renaming areas/neighborhood to reflect recent development patterns and characteristics?

Re: Standish-Ericsson

Realstreets, not sure what you mean by "the Coop will be more in the Kingfield and Lyn-Lake neighborhoods" when ground has already been broken at 38th and Clinton. It's two blocks east of Kingfield's "boundaries." Technically it's in Bryant but nobody refers to that neighborhood...

Re: Standish-Ericsson

What should we call this thread? Standish-Ericsson? 38th Street Station Area? 38th Street Corridor? 38th Street Station Area, according to the City only includes 23rd Ave S to Hiawatha and Standish Ericsson doesn't encompass east of Hiawatha. So what do we call this area ? To be honest I don't know...

Re: Standish-Ericsson

FWIW, the City's master bike plan identified a gap in in the on street network on 42st going across Hiawatha. However, nothings been done about that in the last 3 years... Anyone know why on-street facilities for 38th weren't included in the master bike plan? I guess the city proposes bicycles ride ...

Re: Standish-Ericsson

The city need to get rid of those 7' parking lanes! There's no need for them and they encourage higher speeds. OR they could put in a cycle track but I won't hold my breath... For the life of me I can't figure out why parking is maintained along the short sides of blocks where there are no business.

Re: 2325 E 38th St - Marathon Gas

Yeah this thread could be renamed E 38th St. I didn't know there was ever a Station 38 phase 2. I used to live there and a phase 2 extending down to 38th st would be great. But please don't touch the Cardinal. Best burgers in town. To be honest I prefer the design of Station 38 to that of Oaks Stati...

Re: 2325 E 38th St - Marathon Gas

Not a year ago that building with the cupcake shop was for sale. Now the lot next to it and the old sewing machine shop is for sale. I would like to see that trend continue down 38th st. I know CM Johnson has some hopes for intensifying the commercial uses along the corridor. Check out the area plan...

Re: Car question out of desperation...

You can get a replacement title, think it's technically called an abstract. Do it before the guy who stole the original does something with it. Do you not have spare keys? If not you can usually get the dealer to get the code for your key from the manufacture and make a new set, but it will cost $$$...

Non-partisan legislature!
Legalize lower speed limits on urban streets!
Remove state aid design standards from the books!
Reform LGA and Fiscal Disparities to reflect value (cost included) regarding land uses!

Photos of early 20th century homes in Minneapolis

I'm looking for photos of interior or exteriors of your ordinary houses from ~1900-1920. I've determined that the vast majority of houses built during that period in Minneapolis were either bungalows, four-squares or some type of vernacular 1.5 story design. I just bought a house built in 1912 and w...

Re: Embarrassing Confessions of Urbanists

I have a sociology/political science degree and would eventually like to go to grad school for urban design. What are some essential readings I should look for? I've picked up Jane Jacobs, walkable city and high cost of free parking so far. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk After you read JJ, def...

I feel guilty every time I drive over those pneumatic tubes that count vehicles. I hate that I am contributing to the traffic engineers' justifications for status quo transportation decisions.
Ha! Me too.

Transitive and pizza pointer are both awesome for windows phone
Are there any Windows Phone apps similar to Transit or OMGTransit, where it just lists the next train/bus arrival time?

Sorry, I meant transit mall. And I actually thought what was being proposed would be for all of eat street. So I take back what I said. I don't have strong feelings either way about just that one block. Although keeping it closed to SOV will likely help maintain the auto-centric designs of 1s...

Re: Lake & Nicollet Redevelopment (Kmart site)

My reasoning for making this short stretch transit only has much more to do with placemaking and local walkability than it does for transit performance. This. We just don't have a track record of building streets which accommodate cars while simultaneously being an effective framework for a place. ...

Re: Lake & Nicollet Redevelopment (Kmart site)

I feel like every time we get the opportunity to create a new urban street in this city we need to focus on making it a complete street and that means including everyone, it's not hard, create shared space. There is no reason we can't have transit, calmed vehicles, bike lanes, and sidewalks in a ma...
