Re: The High Cost of Free Parking

Indeed. I want to print that out and hang it in my cube at work. I work for an inner suburb that is quite urban, but just doesn't "get it" on parking issues yet. Then again, how can you blame them when our central cities don't either.

Re: Transit News and Happenings

Now that I've read the full article in multiple places, it does not sound like all hope is lost. Apparently Hornstein and Dibble did not realize the extent to which Gov. Dayton did not support a gas tax increase. He has now said that he will not sign one at all, despite what his transportation commi...

I heard a while ago Pohlads were interested. It seemed inevitable that Shapco was not long for that intersection.

Re: 2013 Minneapolis Municipal Election

I thought we were supposed to vote out the people who voted for the stadium deal? That's going to be pretty tough in Wards 1 and 11 where Reich and Quincy are running unopposed. What's the deal with that? Is there no one in those Wards that thinks themselves qualified to run for office? That's prett...

Re: Transit News and Happenings

A couple things: The House bonding bill includes roughly $50MM for transit projects, including Southwest LRT and further funding to keep Bottineau, Gateway, and 35W/Orange humming along. Governor Dayton's bonding request does not include any state funding for transit, since he feels it should all co...

Re: Sunday Liquor Sales and other Beer/Liquor Legislation

MinnPost had something about the dim prospects of the corresponding Senate bill: http://www.minnpost.com/politics-policy/2013/02/minnesotans-shouldn-t-count-sunday-liquor-sales-anytime-soon Sen. Roger Reinert of Duluth has said he is willing to push the issue, but needs to hear (a lot) of support fr...

Re: Street, Road, and Highway Projects

The Penn Avenue project is about to get underway in a week or so: http://www.minneapolismn.gov/cip/all/WCMS1P-083125 It looks great with all the bumpouts and whatnot, but way too many bus stops! The stops at 59th and 61st are ridiculous and unnecessary. The ones at 59th should be eliminated without ...

HPC Review on the 16th: http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/meeting ... S1P-106190

Anders Christensen, who I don't know anything about except that he has a full-on boner for TP Healy, has appealed the Planning Commission's decision. Staff is recommending denial of the appeal.

Re: Mayoral Race

The preferred outcome of the DFL endorsement process seems to be to block anyone from getting the endorsement so we can have a proper democratic election in November. I only wish that more of the races had as many (good) candidates as Ward 10. It seems that Ward 10 and the Mayoral race are the only ...

Re: Apartment Boom

Once the really big projects open at the U, I could see that market slow down quite a bit. UTEC, WaHu, Bridges, and Opus' Dinkytown project could very well saturate the market for luxury rental around campus. Downtown, North Loop, and Uptown (or eastward along the Greenway, more accurately) will pro...

Re: "Lot A"

Hennepin County and Fine Associates (nearby Five15 on the Park developer) own two smaller triangular parcels just north of the Red Sea building. Hopefully this means that the Lot A development will include something fronting Cedar right up to the corner. While air rights are probably impossible here...

Re: Five15 On the Park - (1515 5th St S)

It looks like the median (if we're talking about the same one) is actually outside of the project limits. Do you have something against it in particular? I think it might be there to prevent people from pulling right up to the LRT station to do drop-offs & U-turns. My experience with Somali driv...

I kinda saw that coming, and yeah...that is insane. Online-only, other-campus, and bus/bike/walk commuting students should organize and protest this ridiculousness. But who will organize them? Will they even care? With Central Corridor (2014) and interlined 7th St aBRT (2016-7) on the immediate hori...

Re: Lyndale Garden Center Site

The apartment and retail portion of this project has been approved by the City Council, pending approval of the Lakewinds Co-op portion of the site. The Co-op is going to own their building and is considered a separate project, as far as the approvals process goes. The apartment/retail portion is pe...
