Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
Train length is another issue... Will these stations only be built for 1-LRV trains? Hiawatha was built with some 2-LRV platforms but with a pathway to extend those platforms (happened within a few years). I recall that they are looking at using the smaller 80-foot long Siemens LRV and I would imag...

In Chicago a hold for $5 is placed and all the transactions are settled at the end of the day as a single transaction on the credit/debit card.

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
Foley Blvd is now grade separated at the BNSF tracks so there's now opportunity to add a platform. I wonder if they can get away with one platform on the east side. A full station would require a bridge over the tracks and elevators.

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
I think the big impact on the travel time is between the route between the Airport and Davern - that's easily 8-10 minutes on the streetcar and the only real difference between the 54 bus and the Riverview corridor. Dedicated lanes would on W 7th would improve reliability but I don't think are going...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
The GoTo Card was one of the first US transit smart card implementations. As an early adopter agency, it isn't surprising that they are now behind the curve. The benefit is that Metro Transit will get the latest technology instead of being a tester for the 2nd gen fare payment systems.

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
I like fare capping to replace the bus passes and even paper transfers. It would also be nice get rid of the peak and off-peak fare distinction, which seems to be an uncommon practice. The biggest hurdle to using the GoTo Card now is that it takes a day or so for value and passes to be added unless ...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
A little difficult to see, but it looks like it's dated 1938. Those were the days when high speed urban roads were considered to be a extension of the parks system - the era of the Bronx River Pkwy, the Arroyo Seco Pkwy, Lake Shore Drive, and locally with Lilac Dr (now Hwy 100). I believe these plan...

Some Purple Line updates from the meeting on Wednesday. The Larpenteur/White Bear station is moving to Idaho/White Bear. On the north end, one option is to end at Maplewood Mall Transit Center, the other option is to extend to Hazelwood Ave & County Road D with a stop at St. Johns Hospital. The ...

A new option for Lowry was presented yesterday which would place the station at street level. This would realign the Lowry/Wirth Pkwy intersection and would allow access to the hospital and neighborhood without the use of elevators or stairs. https://metrocouncil.org/Transportation/Projects/Light-Ra...

Re: Suburban Transit (Opt-out Services Providers)
The urban/suburban divide will exist either way. A lot of suburbs in the Metro Transit service area have bad service, so it largely shows which suburbs have prioritized transit service and which ones have not.

Re: Suburban Transit (Opt-out Services Providers)
No, only the south/west metro suburbs opted out. Minnetonka is also an opt-out but has an agreement with the Met Council to provide additional service instead of having their own system. The opt-out suburbs tend to be wealthier and wanted high quality downtown express service to be competitive. Almo...

Why not just use Marquette and 2nd? The infrastructure is all there and underutilized and I doubt the express bus network is ever coming back like it once was.

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
For the MOA terminal I don't see why they can't just build a third terminal track where a bus bay is. The streetcar is only supposed to be 80 feet long as it is. Moving the light rail terminal across the street is a terrible idea and doesn't seem like it will provide an improvement for transfers or ...

Re: Red Line (Cedar Avenue BRT)
The 442 and 444 also serve MOA to Cedar Grove (and stop adjacent to the mall instead of in the freeway median). 442 also stops at Palomino Hills which has a few apartments and trailer parks nearby. The 140th St Station seems really poorly placed for where riders would be coming from. 147th and AVTS ...

Re: Red Line (Cedar Avenue BRT)
MVTA has been improving the 475 to the point that it runs hourly midday now. Improving that more might be an even better solution than the Red Line as it gives a direct connection that skips the MOA stop.
