Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)

Duh, that station is for getting to your car.

Also, I couldn't stand to watch that video - 80% of it is just suburban flyover.

This reminds me why I much prefer the streetcar plans to these regional suburb links. Vehicle type isn't what's important, it's the regional vs. core service levels.

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail

If they're worried about all the new car traffic they should build it without all those parking spaces.

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

I also hope it's not delayed. Last I heard it was for this summer. I also heard it will require rebuilding the corner of Maryland and Arcade - specifically the Walgreen sign - so the bus can make the turn. https://www.google.com/maps/@44.977567,-93.0659639,3a,75y,154.62h,76.29t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1ss...

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

As discussed before, doesn't an official name come after the LPA has been decided?

Re: Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors

I agree that it is a distinction between dedicated ROW versus shared traffic lanes. I also agree that it is confusing to someone who looks to vehicle type when distinguishing service levels. In reality, service levels can be fairly comparable between dedicated ROW rail and bus. Paris has the RER wit...

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

I am hoping they can do both this RUSH Line on Phalen and the aBRT / 54 on 7th street.

And for someone who lives along Phalen Blvd, I would absolutely consider taking this to MPLS (via the Green Line) over the 61. Seems like it could be better than the 94 Express, too.

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

How far north is Jackson going to be rebuilt? The pavement between University and Pennsylvania looks pretty poor. Lots of space to increase width in that stretch except the one block between Pennsylvania and Mt. Airy/Winter.

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

If you live near this line and work in MPLS, I don't see how you can argue with something that will connect you to the Green Line at Robert Street without going into downtown. This would be a very serious improvement for those of us near a stop.

They should keep all the parking in the tunnel, too. Some folks could start living like Edgar Friendly.

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

Hmm, I didn't catch that. I'm guessing that means taking the bike lanes (shoulders) away on most of Phalen Blvd and saving the mixed use trail for bikes. They'd have to take a lane away over the bridge between Cayuga and Olive, though.

New document day: http://media.wix.com/ugd/6977a0_3ef7e0b066774b4cb940d173b5dfadca.pdf Looks like Phalen Blvd is getting most of the attention. Big question in my mind is how an Arcade Street station would work. If it's at the bridge it's close to both the Seeger Square shopping center (needs major ...

Barking Cat is my favorite. Wonder if the beers will change names, too. I had difficulty every time I brought a growler somewhere trying to explain the name. On the other hand, after it was explained it was very memorable.

Word is Sidhe brewery will be renamed and move to the old location of Station 4 at 4th and Sibley. Rumor is the two other storefronts along 4th will be an "arcade bar" and a pub. Housing to go upstairs.

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

Pages 36-39 show downtown routing options. I thought Option 8 was out because it interlines with Green Line, but it's still discussed here. I really like how Options 1 & 8 offer a connection with the Green Line at Robert Street without having to go all the way through downtown. This provides a q...
